PPredicament continued to loom over the stand of Indian Institute of Paramedical Technology (IIPT) Kohima following inquiry on institute\u2019s status of recognition by its alumni July 8 last and subsequent disclosure by IIPT authorities that recognition of the institute was still pending. \nThe already irate IIPT students were further infuriated as the institute\u2019s management board members failed to turn up at South Police Station Kohima on Friday as per agreement made on July 8 between IIPT authorities and students.
\nA crowd of more than hundred comprising of IIPT students, parents and guardians, and social activists gathered at South PS Kohima to deliberate on the prevailing issue which was spurred as IIPT alumni discovered that the institute was not recognized by state department of Health & Family Welfare. However, instead of arriving to an amicable conclusion, the meeting turned sour as the institute\u2019s principal Dr. R. Ziny\u00fc and vice principal Chingyong Phom failed to give details for several questions raised by students and their parents, including the absence of the managing board members at the meeting.
\nOn vice principal\u2019s claim that the institute had obtained NoC from commissioner & secretary Higher & Technical Education in 2010, students said NoC was only to keep the institute running and not an accreditation.
\nStudents also demanded to see relevant documents if the institute was in the process of recognition from responsible authorities. However, when asked to provide the number of people in the institute\u2019s managing committee and their names, the vice principal said he did not know, adding only the managing director, one R. Baruah, could furnish the names of board members.
\nMeanwhile NSF has taken up the IIPT issue, stating it was committed for solution.
\nExpressing disappointment over action of IIPT management, NSF president Kelhouneizo Yhome, who also attended Friday\u2019s meeting, said it was rather inappropriate to call students to a police station for meeting.
\nNSF suggested that a committee be formed with representatives of institute management including principal and vice-principal, and representatives of students and parents. Later, it was agreed that new committee would meet on July 16 at NSF office premises to resolve the issue.<\/p>\n
