{"id":115059,"date":"2013-07-05T01:11:41","date_gmt":"2013-07-05T01:11:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2013\/07\/05\/wsth-cultural-fair-commences\/"},"modified":"2013-07-05T01:11:41","modified_gmt":"2013-07-05T01:11:41","slug":"wsth-cultural-fair-commences","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2013\/07\/05\/wsth-cultural-fair-commences\/","title":{"rendered":"WSTH \u2018Cultural fair\u2019 commences"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/SAHDXIQOLIZPPUYMNMVX.jpg><span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #ff0000;\">TOVIHOTO, JACOB HIGHLIGHT WOMEN\u2019S ROLE IN SOCIETY<\/span><br \/>\nIn an effort to revive S\u00fcmi cultural and traditional values, a \u2018Mheshomheghi mek\u00fca kipiye\u2019 (Cultural fair) organized by Western S\u00fcmi Totimi Hoho (WSTH) commenced Thursday with colourful programmes here at Agri-Expo site, 4th mile.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing a gathering during the inaugural programme, parliamentary secretary for IT &amp; communication, technical education, science &amp; technology and taxes, Tovihoto Ayemi said women had a huge responsibility in building a society and maintaining \u201clove and peace\u201d within the community.<\/p>\n<p>Asserting that everything begins within a family, Tovihoto pointed out that woman as mothers played a vital role in building the society.<\/p>\n<p>The parliamentary secretary while appreciating WSTH\u2019s effort to preserve S\u00fcmi culture and tradition assured assistance to the Hoho.<\/p>\n<p>Also addressing the gathering, MLA and chairman, Development Authority of Nagaland (DAN), Jacob N Zhimomi pointed out that S\u00fcmis have a rich cultural tradition and that an individual would not be respected if he\/she failed to respect culture.<\/p>\n<p>Stating that culture should be dynamic and allowed to evolve, Jacob also cautioned that one should not forget \u201cthe roots.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Expressing concern over the trend where youngsters have started \u201cforgetting their own language\u201d, Jacob stated that language was a part of culture and tradition and one should make efforts to restore the right language.<\/p>\n<p>Lauding WSTH for the initiative taken, Jacob said women should be the \u201ctorchbearers\u201d in brining positive changes in the society and urged them to encourage each other to become good leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Western S\u00fcmi Hoho (WSH) president, Hokiye Yeptho also commended the effort of WSTH to preserve S\u00fcmi culture and tradition and urged the people to extend support.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the cultural fair was blessed by executive secretary, WSBAK, Reverend S Vitoshe Swu while WSTH president, Ahimsa K Zhimo welcomed the guest and the participants.<\/p>\n<p>Welcoming the gathering, Ahimsa stressed on preserving S\u00fcmi culture and tradition stating that it has become imperative for mothers not only to preserve cultural values but also to pass it on to the younger generation.<\/p>\n<p>The gathering was also entertained with \u2018Lejole\u2019 by men folk from S\u00fcgh\u00fcna village and \u2018luxa le\u2019 by Leshelimi. <\/p>\n<p>After the inaugural programme, a museum displaying traditional S\u00fcmi artifacts was inaugurated while hundreds of visitors also witnessed different competitions like couple show, traditional fire making etc. a theatrical performance on \u2018Nisapa Nisala\u2019 was also performed by Chekiye village. <\/p>\n<p>Apart from the cultural extravaganza, visitors could feast on sumptuous S\u00fcmi delicacies in different food stalls set up by various S\u00fcmi Totimi Hohos (STH)s. <\/p>\n<p>Stalls like Thilixu STH offered S\u00fcmi\u2019s most popular dish \u2018smoked pork with axone\u2019 in a plate covered with leaves while Ikishe STH\u2019s stall offered S\u00fcmi delicacies like rice cakes. <\/p>\n<p>Some stalls had fresh local meat on sale while others sold fresh local vegetables and fruits; traditional attires, artifacts etc. WSTH\u2019s three-day \u2018cultural fair\u2019 would conclude on July 6.&nbsp; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TOVIHOTO, JACOB HIGHLIGHT WOMEN\u2019S ROLE IN SOCIETY In an effort to revive S\u00fcmi cultural and traditional values, a \u2018Mheshomheghi mek\u00fca kipiye\u2019 (Cultural fair) organized by Western S\u00fcmi Totimi Hoho (WSTH) commenced Thursday with colourful programmes here at Agri-Expo site, 4th mile.
