{"id":117276,"date":"2016-07-13T00:12:29","date_gmt":"2016-07-13T00:12:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2016\/07\/13\/nsf-seminar-on-education-system-in-nagaland\/"},"modified":"2016-07-13T00:12:29","modified_gmt":"2016-07-13T00:12:29","slug":"nsf-seminar-on-education-system-in-nagaland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2016\/07\/13\/nsf-seminar-on-education-system-in-nagaland\/","title":{"rendered":"NSF seminar on education system in Nagaland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">With the objective of improving the present education system through discourse from different individuals and professionals, the Naga Students\u2019 federation (NSF) organized a seminar on education system in Nagaland at Hotel Japf\u00fc here Tuesday on the theme \u201cgenerating improvement through research educational system of Nagaland\u201d.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>In her address, state college of teacher education (SCTE) Kohima principal Dr. Bendangyapangla stressed the need for coordination between the different levels of education in the state for curriculum planning and introducing of vocationalisation at the secondary level.<\/div>\n<div>She reminded that learning should not be text-book centric but its content should be made relevant to the socio-cultural, politico-historical, and geographical context of the learners. Expressing concern over the absence of research-based planning and development in the state education system, SCTE principal suggested that school education should establish linkages with other departments by introducing choice based credit system at higher secondary.<\/div>\n<div>Dr. Bendangyapangla said Nagaland needed a common executive and administrative heads where the system of management needed to be de-centralised, giving community responsibility in management to strengthen the system. &nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>She opined that PPP mode in school education could be considered and funding to institutions could be made on performance-based. Challenging the gathering, she said \u201cis our education system preparing the children to face the challenges and opportunities of the world in which they would live and grow?\u201d<\/div>\n<div>NBSE controller of examination, Rangumbuing Nsarangbe, in his presentation on secondary and higher secondary education in Nagaland, highlighted the result of HSSLC and HSLC for the last 10 years with some analysis and observation. Sharing one of his observations, Nsarangbe said the teaching profession was being taken very lightly in Nagaland. He said teachers once appointed should be responsible for the children\u2019s education and shared his opinion that private school teachers needed to be given more incentives in terms of pay and allowances.<\/div>\n<div>Nsarangbe said some of the concerns of education system in Nagaland were less interaction by the students to the teachers, neglecting maths and science subjects, teachers\u2019 qualification and parents monitoring the children\u2019s education.<\/div>\n<div>University of Hyderabad, Department of Philosophy, assistant professor, Dr. Venusa Tinyi, one of the resource persons, in his speech on \u201ceducation and identity\u201d, said Nagas needed to learn the critique of \u201cour own culture\u201d and \u201cappreciate our own culture\u201d, which, he said was lacking. He said \u201cour stories will have to become a part of our identity and mode of existence.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>Lamenting the poor education system, he said Naga youth know more of others\u2019 cultures than their own. He also stressed the importance of developing enough literature to \u201cgrow and develop our society.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>Speaking on the topic \u201cnew approach to the curriculum and evaluation system in Nagaland state education\u201d, NUEPA New Delhi Research scholar Lakpachui Siro said many scholars argued that the education system under the British colonial regime was to serve the interest of the colonial administration. He asked the gathering to ponder on whether the \u201cpresent education system is addressing the purpose of education and if this system is transforming our children into better human being and a resourceful person.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>Nagaland University controller of examination, Dr. Abemo, in his presentation, challenged the gathering to ponder over literacy rate of Nagaland, which was more than 86%, whether this rate was producing quality or quantity education.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>He disclosed that Nagaland University would be developing curriculum course in near future.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Dr.Abemo emphasized the importance of teachers\u2019 commitment towards their job, saying they played a vital role in education system and the society.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Northfield school administrator Pheluopfelie stressed the need of education system to focus on strong economic development with technology and industry. He suggested that the state needed to build up institutions that created human capital as per the needs and requirements of the state.<\/div>\n<div>Earlier, the programme was chaired by NSF general secretary Boveio Poukai Duo, welcome address was delivered by NSF president Subenthung Kithan and invocation was given by NBCC school coordinator Rev. Dr. Mechiehol Savi. Border libraries project co-founder Muletolu Vero and WFUNA trainer Limabenla Jamir were the moderators in first and second session respectively.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>The rapporteurs of the seminar were path finder Nagaland founder Vitono Haralu, Kohima college assistant professor Vitsolenuo Suohu and SCERT senior lecturer Daniel Thong.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>There was discussion and interactions with the resources persons and scholars.<\/div>\n<div>The programme was attended by student leaders of various tribes, NGOs, scholars, government officials from school education and SCERT, heads of the institutions, lecturers, teachers and others.<\/div>\n<div>The objective of the seminar was to review and exchange educational concept to restructure the educational system of Nagaland with a special focus on curriculum development marking system and management.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With the objective of improving the present education system through discourse from different individuals and professionals, the Naga Students\u2019 federation (NSF) organized a seminar on education system in Nagaland at Hotel Japf\u00fc here Tuesday on the theme \u201cgenerating improvement through research educational system of Nagaland\u201d.
