{"id":117426,"date":"2016-07-16T00:31:51","date_gmt":"2016-07-16T00:31:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2016\/07\/16\/education-key-to-empowering-girl-child-kiyanilie\/"},"modified":"2016-07-16T00:31:51","modified_gmt":"2016-07-16T00:31:51","slug":"education-key-to-empowering-girl-child-kiyanilie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2016\/07\/16\/education-key-to-empowering-girl-child-kiyanilie\/","title":{"rendered":"Education key to empowering girl child: Kiyanilie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/IMGCINRKQCFDAXSKGZJW.jpg><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Minister of social welfare and parliamentary affairs, Kiyanilie Peseyie, said education was the key to empowering the future of girl child and called for taking advantage of Sukanya Samriddhi Accounts (SSA) scheme to \u201cempower as many girls as we can with education\u201d.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>He was speaking at the launch of SSA scheme awareness drive with the theme \u201cSecure our Girl Child\u2019s Future\u201d at chief secretary\u2019s conference hall here initiated by State Resource Centre for Women (SRCW) and the Department of Posts.<\/div>\n<div>SSA scheme, a girl child prosperity scheme under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched in January 2015, aims to ensure a bright future for the girl children by facilitating their education and marriage expenses.<\/div>\n<div>\u201cIt is my ardent wish that our people will come forward and take active part in this scheme which will only benefit them. Let us make \u2018Target 2000\u2019 to secure the future of our girl children a reality\u201d, Kiyanilie said. Minister also addressed the need to strengthen convergence and collaborative effort so as to help SSA scheme spread widely in the state.<\/div>\n<div>He asked department of rural development to spread information through village councils, department of school education through schools and department of health and family welfare through ASHA workers.<\/div>\n<div>Delivering a note on collaboration, the director department of posts, R.M. Patel, pointed out that postal network has presence in the state &#8212; one head office in Kohima, 41 sub-offices and 300 branch offices. &nbsp;He said \u201call these are point of sale for SSA\u201d.<\/div>\n<div>Pointing out that till date there were 3866 SSA accounts opened in the state since its launch, Patel stated that highest number of accounts opened was 961 in Dimapur, whereas lowest was 18 accounts in Peren. He maintained that the coverage was not encouraging in comparison with total population of eligible girls.<\/div>\n<div>SRCW assistant state coordinator, R. Juliana Medom said the scheme also aims to address the low child sex ratio and empower girl child in 100 gender critical districts in the country. She said that in Nagaland, Longleng has been identified as the Gender critical district with 885 girls per 1,000 boys (Census 2011).<\/div>\n<div>System administration department of posts, Daniel Domeh, said the account can be opened by the natural or legal guardian in the name of a girl child from the birth of the girl child till she attained the age of 10 years with minimum deposit of Rs. 1,000 every year. The account will be valid for 21 years from the date of opening, after which it will mature and the money will be paid to the girl child in whose name the account had been opened.<\/div>\n<div>Nagaland state social welfare board chairperson, Bano Vinito, also delivered a \u201cnote on collaboration\u201d, while keynote address was delivered by joint secretary and director state child protection society, Z. Nyusietho Nyuthe. The programme was chaired by mission director SRCW, P.
