Sonam, 30, said sometimes it is scary to support the right side as things might get out of hand. \u201cGoing on Twitter, standing up for the right side, it\u2019s scary because then you have a lot of people being negative, the media might not take it the right way, you might have \u2018morchas\u2019 outside your house, you don\u2019t know. But you still need to stand up for it,\u201d Sonam told reporters at Filmfare Glamour and Style Awards cover launch.\nThe \u2018Prem Ratan Dhan Payo\u2019 actress believes being diplomatic encourages the person to continue with wrong doings. \u201cBeing diplomatic and not taking sides is so wrong. Because at the end of the day you are actually encouraging the person who is not doing the right thing. So by not taking a stand, according to me, is also not a right thing to do anymore in this day and age.\u201d
\nIn her upcoming film, \u2018Neerja\u2019, Sonam will be seen playing the role of senior flight attendant Neerja Bhanot, who lost her life saving 360 people on a Pan Am flight that was hijacked in Karachi in 1986.
\nSonam said the film taught her to be courageous despite all odds. \u201cI was basically on shaky ground for a couple of years. I\u2019ve always been known as someone who has an opinion, who says the right thing and wants to do the right thing. A lot of people are not okay with it, so there is a lot of negativity because I am not compromising with it. I was like I am getting backlash for who I am anyway I might as well become this person.
\n\u201cBut then this film came at the right time. It taught me, that a girl who was only 23-year-old did this, she faced fear… When you are scared and still do the right thing, when you know there is something that\u2019s not going to let right things happen to you and you still do it.
