Terming Nagaland home minister G.Kaito Aye\u2019s claim that people of the state appreciated the \u201crelative peaceful environment\u201d in Nagaland as an \u201cinsult\u201d on the people, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) said that instead, the people have been \u201creeling under the onslaught of unabated taxations\u201d by various organizations and underground groups, causing market prices to go out of control and compounded by factional fights and killings in public places.<\/p>\n
Media Cell of the NPCC said that by his own statement, home minister Kaito has exposed his \u201cnaive approach\u201d on the situation. NPCC squarely blamed the current situation on the NPF-led DAN government having abdicated its responsibility to maintain the rule of law.<\/p>\n
Citing the recent agitations that led to a statewide bandh on June 18 in support of ACAUT\u2019s movement against unabated taxations and NSF led total bandh on July 1 against factional killings; NPCC pointed out that were clear indicators of people resorting to agitations to wake up the state government in its \u201cdeep slumber.\u201d <\/p>\n
NPCC said the home minister\u2019s \u201ccallous statement\u201d was also an insult to the memory of innocent civilians killed or injured during factional fire-fights in public places. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe home minister instead of giving comparative analysis of killings that happened in the past during Congress rule should conserve his energy to run the present state of affairs which needs his attention\u201d, said NPCC. <\/p>\n
NPCC pointed that that the extraordinary situation faced by the state during the period preceding cease-fire and few years after that were still fresh in the minds of the public who survived that era. <\/p>\n
It also advised the home minister not to reopen the wounds as he himself was part of Congress ministry with the present chief minister as the then home minister. <\/p>\n
Stating that \u201cmonitoring\u201d of development in the state would not the problems at hand; NPCC reiterated that the state government has to enforce the writ of the state to protect the lives and rights of its citizens.<\/p>\n
\u201cTherefore, the government confined to simply monitoring the lawless situation as mute spectator will not wish away the troubles\u201d said NPCC. <\/p>\n
The home minister repeatedly advocating for counseling underground cadres on cease-fire ground rules to curb factional clashes was simply a naive approach drawn into a \u201cmisplaced belief\u201d that they would easily co-operate, said NPCC pointing out that the real problem relating to factional clashes lies elsewhere.<\/p>\n
NPCC said that the home minister instead of expressing his shock over Congress statement should do some reality check so that the confidence of the people was restored in the ability of the state government to guarantee their safety and security.<\/p>\n
NPCC asserted that the home minister refuting the reality when the people of the state were at the mercy of nefarious elements only exposed the lack of political will by NPF and its leaders to confront and rescue the state from the clutches of lawlessness.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
