M. Imchen as resource person.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>During the programme, Imchen spoke on the topic, \u201crights of the prisoners\u201d and said that every prisoner had the right to be defended and in cases where prisoner is unable to afford a lawyer, the DLSA would assist by providing a panel lawyer.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>He also said that prisoners could apply for bail if trail is delayed due to non submission of chargesheet, depending on the gravity of the case. Imchen also informed that under trail review committee would soon be set up in Kohima for speedy justice.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;Prisoners were encouraged by resource person not to waste time during the prison stay but to learn different trades which are imparted, so as to become reformed asset to the nation.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Assistant public prosecutor Vikyato Sumi dealt specifically with the provision of Section 436A of the Code of Criminal Procedure where an under trail prisoner(UTP) has a right to be released if he has completed \u00bd of the maximum period in prison while his trail was on. &nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Another provision he dealt with was on Section 265 A-L Code of Criminal Procedure where UTP\u2019s can file petition for Plea Bargaining in case of petty offences.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>He also said that the prisoners are not outcast people but rather put behind bars for correctional measure only to reform themselves to become a better person. Sumi said that he was happy with the environment that is in existence at the Kohima District Jail, where the inmates share a cordial relationship. He also told the prisoners to approach the jail authorities in case they have not been produced before the Court for more than 14 days and also informed the Court if they are not able to engage a Counsel due to economic reasons.<\/div>\n<div>Earlier, the programme was chaired by panel lawyer and retainer Kekhriengulie Thenuo, while short speech was delivered by jailor District Jail, Kohima, Sani Keppen, who expressed that through such initiatives of the KDLSA, the inmates would be made more aware of their rights and that the Jail would look forward for such more programs so that trials could be expedited.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>During the lok adalat the Chief Judicial Magistrate Kohima &amp; Secretary KDLSA Mezivolu T. Therieh, NJS presided over the session with public prosecutor Imtiakum and V.Ashu Theyo as conciliators.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>She briefed the prisoners regarding the importance of Lok Adalats and addressed the grievances of the UTPs. She also announced that all the prisoners without an advocate due to economic reasons would be provided with same after the case was examined by DLSA.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Altogether there were 91inmates out of which 49 cases have been charge sheeted and proceeding with trial.
