With a view to eradicate and manage the alarming cases of liver diseases, Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima department of medicine organized Continuing Medical Education (CME) on \u201cCommon liver disease encountered in hospitals\u201d on June 20, at Japf\u00fc Hotel, Kohima with AIIMS New Delhi MD, DM (Gastro.) Dr. B.N. Choudhury as resource person. <\/div>\n
At the programme, resource person mentioned that in India alcoholic liver disease has become the most common cause of liver disease though there is no documentation till-date. <\/div>\n
Choudhury mentioned that 288,000 new Hepatitis \u2018C\u2019 Virus (HCV) infections occurred in India in 2014 and related death maybe high as 96,000 every year.  Hepatitis C is caused by infection with the hepatitis C virus (HCV) and represents a major global health burden.<\/div>\n
He also stated that chronic hepatitis-B (CHB) is an important global disease, more than 400 million people chronically infected with Hepatitis \u2018B\u2019 virus. 75% of those infected with HBV are Asians. 40% of CHB develop the long term complications-liver failure, HCC. Doctor\u2019s from both private and government hospital\u2019s attended the CME.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
