World Consumer Rights Day 2017 was observed in Dimapur, Kohima, Phek and Wokha on Wednesday under the theme \u201cConsumer Rights in the Digital Age\u201d.<\/span><\/div>\n
In Dimapur, WCRD was observed under the theme \u201cConsumer Rights in the Digital Age\u201d at Lotha Hoho Ki Dimapur with deputy commissioner & chairman, district consumer protection council, Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome as the chief guest. The programme was organized by Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection and Consumers Society Dimapur.<\/div>\n
Speaking at the function, the DC reminded the gathering that in every sphere of life people would continue to be consumers so he said there was a need to know the Consumer Rights.<\/div>\n
Drawing attention on consumerism, he said as per the United Nation survey in 2012, India alone recorded 14 billion in terms of US dollar e-commerce transaction. This, he remarked is a vital aspect to discuss and be aware of Consumer Rights.<\/div>\n
The DC also called upon the consumers to be alert about items sold at higher price than the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) and weight scaled being manipulated. <\/div>\n
He urged the consumers to file a complaint if they come across any such practices in the market.<\/div>\n
Speaking on the theme, deputy commissioner of police, Dimapur, Dr. K. P. A. IIyas, deliberated on internet connection, billings, e-commerce and misuse of technology by miscreants to dupe naive people.<\/div>\n
 The DCP Dimapur also shared his own experience of getting internet broadband connection. He said only the maximum speed limit was guaranteed and minimum speed was not mentioned. <\/div>\n
He also highlighted that need for of affordable, fairly priced, transparently billed data services whose minimum speed and stability was assured where failure thereof shall be compensated in bill. <\/div>\n
The programme was chaired by assistant controller of LM & CP Dimapur, Limatoshi Jamir; exhortation by principal district & session judge and president consumer disputes redressal forum, Dimapur, G.H. Ramlia; special presentation by winner of Hornbill Rock Contest 2016, Albert Jinger (SNF) and Onen Jamir and vote of thanks by president Dimapur consumers society, Vinoka Aye. <\/div>\n
KOHIMA: WCRD was jointly organized by Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection government of Nagaland and Nagaland Voluntary Consumers\u2019 Organization (NVCO) at state college of teacher education Kohima.<\/div>\n
NVCO president and advocate Kezhokhoto Savi, while addressing the gathering as the speaker, said the day was an opportunity to promote basic rights for all consumers, create awareness so that their rights were respected and protected against market abuses and social injustices. <\/div>\n
He said WCRD should be a reminder that everyone has the right to \u201cfight back\u201d when victimised by the sellers or manufacturers. Savi also reminded that Consumer Protection Act 1986 protects the consumers from unscrupulous traders even in digital mode of business activities and transactions.<\/div>\n
Savi also challenged the teachers to spread the awareness on consumer rights saying, it was biggest concern of the society. <\/div>\n
He shared the six basic rights in India on Consumer Rights, which includes, right to safety, right to information, right to choose, right to redressal, right to representation and right to consumer education. <\/div>\n
The programme was led by assistant controller legal metrology and consumer protection, Kaikambe Zeliang; key note address was delivered by principal SCTE Hekishe Sema and closing remarks and vote of thanks was tendered by SCTE, Dr. Bendangyapangla.<\/div>\n
WCRD was attended by SCTE teaching staffs, students and faculty members of SCTE, NVCOvolunteers and lawyers. <\/div>\n
PHEK: Phek district headquarters observed WCRD at Christian Home High School, Phek Town with assistant Professor, Phek Government College & former member, Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum Phek Town, Shepalu Venuh, as guest speaker.<\/div>\n
Speaking on the occasion, Venuh reminded the gathering that all are consumers in one way or the other and that observing WCRD was the basic rights of all the consumers.<\/div>\n
She said by observing WCRD its serves as a common platform to protect against market abuse and social injustice.<\/div>\n
Venuh said Consumer Rights covers a wide range of areas which deals with control of policies, public distribution system, sales, quality control, maintenance of standards etc. <\/div>\n
The function was chaired by inspector LM&CP, Phek, Shekhozo while welcome address was delivered by assistant teacher CHHS, Kudukhoto.<\/div>\n
Wokha: Wokha District Voluntary Consumer Association (WDVCA) and the department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, Wokha jointly organized WCRD at Don Bosco Youth Centre Wokha with SDO (C) HQs, Asalie Lese as the resource person. <\/div>\n
A press note by WDVCA chairman, Mhonimo Humtsoe stated that Asalia Lese stressed on the consumer rights in the digital age, such as marketing system and transactions, and also the dangers of hacking accounts and personal identities among many others.<\/div>\n
Brief information on the formation of WDVCA was given by Mhonimo Humtsoe. The programme was attended by a large number of students and staff members from DBHSS Wokha, NGO leaders, public where detailed coverage was given by DPRO Wokha.<\/div>\n
