{"id":13057,"date":"2017-06-18T00:01:03","date_gmt":"2017-06-18T00:01:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2017\/06\/18\/public-memorial-service-in-honour-of-late-khaplang\/"},"modified":"2017-06-18T00:01:03","modified_gmt":"2017-06-18T00:01:03","slug":"public-memorial-service-in-honour-of-late-khaplang","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2017\/06\/18\/public-memorial-service-in-honour-of-late-khaplang\/","title":{"rendered":"Public memorial service in honour of late Khaplang"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/IMIFGUDMKSPNKJEAOLXK.jpg><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Public memorial service in honour of late S.S.Khaplang, chairman NSCN\/GPRN was held here at IMC hall, which was jointly organised by Eastern Nagaland Peoples\u2019 Organization (ENPO) and Nagaland Tribes Council.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>Delivering profile\/life contribution of late Khaplang, noted Naga peace activist Niketu Iralu reminded the gathering that tribute was being paid to a Naga leader for whom the struggle was his passion, vision and life-long commitment.<\/div>\n<div>He also read out what Khaplang had said in his last will: \u201cI have done my part for the freedom of my people with the little capacity God has given me. And now the younger generations of Nagaland need to continue the legacy left to you just as it was passed down to us by the elders. As a human, I have done many wrongs and forgive me all my failures in this noble venture of our cherished freedom. My sons and daughters please continue to hold on to the torch of our freedom until we reach the Promised Land\u201d. Iralu thanked Khaplang for making the Nagas of North-West Myanmar and their extensive homeland up to Chindwin River a part of the story of the Nagas setting out to be a people and nation. He said that this would always be regarded as Khaplang\u2019s unique and lasting contribution.<\/div>\n<div>Iralu also stated that tributes from leaders of different political groups, state parties, NGOs and the public in general indicated how much his contribution was now recognized. Citing a famous Socrates\u2019 quote, \u201cA life not examined is not worth living\u201d, Iralu said that the struggle of a people for their dreams and aspirations becomes impossible to pursue if it was not truthfully examined and adjusted to changing realities.<\/div>\n<div>He also said that the present time of anxiety and confusion should be taken stock of and honest assessment needed to be made so the \u201clegacy\u201d inherited by the present generation would reaffirm the rightness of the struggle. In this regard, Iralu said that it should now be fought differently by accepting new perspectives of the changing realities. \u201cThis must not be misunderstood and condemned thoughtlessly by anyone,\u201d he added.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Representing the NTC, Z.Lohe lauded ENPO and NTC for organising a memorial function and most appropriate that the two organization come together to bring the concerned citizens in memory of the departed soul.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Lohe said that NTC respects and regards S.S.Khaplang, a fatherly figure and as a respectable citizens amongst the Nagas.<\/div>\n<div>He also said that NTC respects Khaplang because of his integrity and determination. He said Khaplang had come across series of calamities both natural and political, but managed to withstand all catastrophes because he \u201cbuilt his foundation on the basement of the ground.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>ENPO president, Khoiwang Konyak, gave a brief history of late S.S. Khaplang and how Nagas occupied the present Myanmar Naga area.<\/div>\n<div>Konyak told the gathering that Khaplang was the first person to declare Nagamese as official languages in Naga areas.<\/div>\n<div>Eulogy was read out by representatives of NNPGs Working Group CNTC and NGBF.<\/div>\n<div>Earlier, the memorial programme was chaired by Joshua Newmai, while Chang Baptist church Dimapur, Pastor, W.Chingmak, said the invocation prayer.<\/div>\n<div>A melancholic dirge was presented by Tali Angh and Baptist Pastors\u2019 Fellowship Dimapur (BPFD) president, Rev. T. Seb, gave solemn prayer and benediction.<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">\u2018Khaplang, an unparalleled revolutionary leader\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<div>Working group (WG) of six Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) described late SS Khaplang, president NSCN\/GPRN, as an unparalleled revolutionary leader in many ways and was humble, resolute and visionary.<\/div>\n<div>In a solidarity message by NNPGs working group convener, N. Kitovi Zhimomi, which was read out by WG co-convener Zopra Vero (FGN kedallo), at the memorial service, stated that Khaplang\u2019s commitment towards the national cause was deeply grounded in his love and understanding of the Naga people.<\/div>\n<div>WG convener said Khaplang was the golden bridge that connected the divided Naga house, adding that Nagas have lost an irreplaceable bridge.
