{"id":132813,"date":"2015-05-17T01:33:19","date_gmt":"2015-05-17T01:33:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2015\/05\/17\/nnc-fgn-celebrates64th-naga-plebiscite-day\/"},"modified":"2015-05-17T01:33:19","modified_gmt":"2015-05-17T01:33:19","slug":"nnc-fgn-celebrates64th-naga-plebiscite-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2015\/05\/17\/nnc-fgn-celebrates64th-naga-plebiscite-day\/","title":{"rendered":"NNC\/FGN celebrates\u201864th Naga Plebiscite Day\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/IMGBJZINTZIYVKDYPFDQ.jpg><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">To mark the plebiscite of May 16, 1951, Nagas celebrated \u201cthe 64th anniversary Naga voluntary Plebiscite Day\u201d Saturday at Chedema Peace Camp under the banner of NNC\/FGN.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>In her presidential message which was read out to the gathering, NNC president Adinno Phizo reminded the people that on May 16, 1951 Nagas under the leadership of NNC president A.Z. Phizo \u201coverwhelmingly\u201d opted for a single national identity not to join India.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Though the result was \u201csignificant\u201d for the Nagas, Adinno said that it angered the then Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru who sent his army to \u201ccrush\u201d Nagaland. However with the intervention of Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) she said the council boldly initiated a ceasefire and organized a peace mission from international figures. Subsequently she said a ceasefire was signed on May 25, 1964 between FGN and government of India and \u201cpeace talk\u201d began on official level however after \u201cseveral meetings\u201d Adinno said the talk became \u201cstagnant\u201d.<\/div>\n<div>Pointing out that till today the conflict between India and Nagaland has not been resolved, she said instead, a section of Nagas was being used by India with its occupational forces empowered by the order of Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) of 1958 and conducting the \u201cso called election and peace process\u201d in Nagaland.<\/div>\n<div>Adinno then said that the love of \u201cour country\u201d and to save it was paramount and straightforward and not in \u201cseveral ways\u201d and added that the need of the hour was to \u201cunderstand the situation and to pursue justice and peace with India\u201d.<\/div>\n<div>Asserting that Nagas are not against India, she however said Nagas have also got nothing to compromise with as Nagas is not part of India from the \u201cvery beginning\u201d. She also pointed out that Nagas \u201cenjoy freedom and equality\u201d.<\/div>\n<div>She then concluded her speech stating \u201cthe stand and position of Nagaland is simple and clear, we are living in our own country that is God given Nagaland. We must always be thankful and pray to the living God for our beautiful Nagaland\u201d.<\/div>\n<div>In the programme, \u201cNDAB major general\u201d R\u00fcguosielie shared his experience on plebiscite expressed the need to inform the present generation of the history of Nagas and the older generation who signed the plebiscite.<\/div>\n<div>R\u00fcguosielie said that he was still in school when the plebiscite was signed but his memory remained vivid on what the Nagas said to the Government of India. He said Nagas told government of India that \u201cour land is ours and we will not give it to others\u201d. &nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Short speech was also delivered by former principal of Patkai Christian College Kolezo Chase. The gathering was enthralled by performances of special song by Tangkhul Baptist Church Kohima and CBCK youth Kohima.
