Rio also impressed upon the union minister and officials of the ministry to look into the problems of the region and take steps to improve broadband services, 3G services and mobile services.<\/div>\n<div>Also, taking up the issues raised by the National Federation of Telecom Employees, BSNL, Nagaland on the need to immediately shift the BSNL headquarters to the state capital Kohima, MP said Nagaland was the only state in India that did not have its headquarters of BSNL in the state capital.<\/div>\n<div>Rio also urged the ministry to increase the tenure of officers posted to Nagaland and the north east to three years instead of one and a half years. Further, MP requested the minister to explore the avenues to employ the local youths into the department and if necessary to undertake skill development programmes for the youth so telecom sector could absorb youth from Nagaland and NE region for gainful employment.<\/div>\n<div>Rio also submitted a letter to Prasad highlighting some of the urgent problems faced in Nagaland.<\/div>\n<div>Prasad asks BSNL to improve services: Union minister for IT and Communications Ravi Shankar Prasad has asked state-run telecom player BSNL to improve quality of services, especially in border and naxal-affected areas.<\/div>\n<div>The government is committed to reviving BSNL and is taking numbers of initiatives to bring the PSU back to the position of market leader, according to a government statement. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will explore the possibility of setting up a dedicated cell in BSNL to monitor effectiveness of its network in border areas and also in areas badly affected by extremism, the statement said.<\/div>\n<div>Prasad met MPs from Bihar, Meghalaya, Manipur and Nagaland yesterday. The meeting was part of a series of meetings planned to make telecom officials directly answerable to Parliamentary representatives so as to have a first-hand account of public sectors performance, problems faced and possible solutions. In the first meeting, MPs from Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and North Eastern States participated.
