He said that the student community should educate the people living in the rural areas on the importance of environment and the damage it could cause if we do not preserve it. <br \/>\n\u2018We are collectively responsible to protect and preserve the nature for the present and the future generation,\u2019 the chief guest said.<br \/>\nThe chief guest also apprised the district administration on their role in conserving the environment by putting a ban on hunting, jungle burning and other practices that destroy the environment. <br \/>\nSpeaking on the importance of the alder tree, Deo Nukhu said one should plant alder trees as it gives a good manure effect to the crops which is very suitable in the state apart from the plain areas of Dimapur. He said planting alder trees would be not only beneficial to the environment but to the people who cultivate as well.<br \/>\nHe also asked the gathering to recycle their recyclable waste and encouraged the students to do something for the betterment of the society so that the future generation might remember them.<br \/>\nDelivering the welcome address, Director of Higher Education, C Khalong said the main motive of the workshop was to educate the students so that they might bring positive changes to the Naga society. He also encouraged the gathering to come together as a whole in developing sustainable and preserving the environment. <br \/>\nHe also mentioned that the department would continue to organise workshops in the coming year on the occasion of \u2018Earth Day\u2019.<br \/>\nCommissioner &amp; Secretary Higher Education, SCERT, FP Solo, who also spoke on the occasion, appealed the gathering to contribute towards a sustainable environment for oneself and the future as well.<br \/>\nResource persons for the day long workshop were Assistant Professor of Law College, T Limanochet Jamir, and Assistant Professor of City Law College,<br \/>\nDimapur, Niksungla.
