In response to the protest staged by irked residents of Duncan Basti last Sunday and Monday over power department\u2019s \u201capathy\u201d in restoring power supply, the department on Tuesday provided a utility pole and few hundred cables for the long neglected 1979, 500 MW transformer.<\/p>\n
The response came only after irked residents through the local media threatened to block Duncan Basti road leading towards Dillai Gate and Assam if the department failed to restore the allocated power by Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Although a relief has been provided by the department in terms of utility pole and meters, however the residents have requested the department to also install a new transformer, sanctioned by the state government, at the earliest. <\/p>\n
Residents who gathered on the roadside where the repair work was going on, claimed major repairing was never done over \u201celectrification\u201d.<\/p>\n
Claiming there was illegal power taping by hundreds of households from Nagaland-Assam border, the colony residents cautioned asking them to immediately discontinue as power pilfering was also one of the reasons leading to constant overloading and short circuit.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy is it that the department has to wait and really get in to our nerve and act only when we, stage some protest\u2026isn\u2019t electricity our basic right,\u201d questioned an elderly woman.
