The pop star, who is approaching his 18th birthday, also discussed the pressure of coming of age in the spotlight in a new interview with America\u2019s V magazine.
\n\u2018People need to know I\u2019m not a kid anymore,\u2019 he admits, adding that he\u2019s \u2018not completely grown-up\u2019 either.<\/p>\n
\u2018I\u2019m still learning,\u2019 he says. \u2018I\u2019m not going to try to conform to what people want me to be, or go out there and start partying, have people see me with alcohol. I want to do it at my own pace.\u2019<\/p>\n
While he may be transforming from a boy to a man, don\u2019t expect him to change his squeeky clean image. \u2018I don\u2019t want to start singing about things like sex, drugs and swearing,\u2019 said the heartthrob, who is dating Selena Gomez.<\/p>\n
\u2018I\u2019m into love, and maybe I\u2019ll get more into making love when I\u2019m older. But I want to be someone who is respected by everybody.\u2019 While he recently got a tattoo of Jesus on his leg, he insists: \u2018I don\u2019t consider myself religious. I haven\u2019t been to church in a long time.\u2019<\/p>\n
The teen sensation made headlines with the large tattoo of Christ\u2019s face on his calf – but downplays his beliefs. Bieber admitted that going to church does not play a part in his life, although he talks to God in private.<\/p>\n
\u2018I don\u2019t think I\u2019m religious. I am spiritual,\u2019 Bieber told the fashion magazine. \u2018I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins. I believe that He put me in this position, and that I have to always give Him the glory He deserves for putting me here.<\/p>\n
\u2018But I don\u2019t consider myself religious. A lot of people who are religious, I think they get lost. They go to church just to go to church. \u2018I\u2019m not trying to disrespect them – you know, whatever works for you. \u2018But for me, I focus more on praying and talking to Him. I don\u2019t have to go to church.\u2019 He admitted: \u2018I haven\u2019t been to church in a long time, but I know I have a relationship with Him. I talk to Him, and that\u2019s all.\u2019<\/p>\n
Instead, Bieber seemed keen to push his skills as a pugilist. \u2018Yeah I box. Me and my friends box all the time,\u2019 he bragged. \u2018My dad is a fighter so he taught me some stuff growing up, and he\u2019s a great fighter, so I\u2019m a pretty good boxer.\u2019<\/p>\n
He compared his plight as an entertainer fighting for respect with that of Floyd Mayweather Jr. \u2018Now that I\u2019m on top, everyone wants to bring me down. Everyone\u2019s trying to tug at me and take my spot,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
\u2018Like Floyd Mayweather, he\u2019s the best boxer in the world. Now he is a champion. Every time he goes to a fight now, people are like, \u2018He\u2019s going to lose this time\u2019. \u2018Every time he wins. And people aren\u2019t ever going to know that he\u2019s a champ.\u2019He said he also looks to the controversial fighter for inspiration on how to stay on top in his own profession.<\/p>\n
\u2018Floyd Mayweather trains every day, even when it\u2019s off season,\u2019 he gushed. \u2018When everyone else just chills he\u2019s in there punching bags because he wants to be the best. He wants to be better than Ali.<\/p>\n
\u2018I\u2019m going to be honest – I\u2019m young and I\u2019m not as disciplined as I need to be. If I have a day off, I need to be in the dance studio, but instead I\u2019m hanging out with my friends. \u2018But when I\u2019m in my 20s need to buckle down and work as hard as these other people.\u2019<\/p>\n
And he admits he is aiming high – as high as can be. \u2018Eventually, I want to become the best at what I do. I want to be the best. In the world,\u2019 he said. \u2018I want to be better than anybody that\u2019s ever done it. I don\u2019t want people to think of me as just a teen sensation. \u2018I want to transition, and become the greatest.\u2019<\/p>\n
He knows some people will be hard to win over – but has confidence that his talent will be enough to win over the haters. \u2018A lot of people say they hate Justin Bieber who haven\u2019t listened to any of my music,\u2019 he admitted. <\/p>\n
\u2018They just hate me because the hate the idea of me. I\u2019m young, I\u2019m handsome – I don\u2019t mean to sound conceited – but they think I just got here because of that. \u2018I feel the more put out, the more people will realize it\u2019s really good music. I\u2019m not worried about the guy fans because they are going to come.\u2019<\/p>\n
He added: \u2018It\u2019s not a fluke that I\u2019m here. I\u2019m here for a reason, and I\u2019m here for a lifetime.\u2019 He also insists that he is not worried about having many of the troubles that his idol Michael Jackson faced after finding fame at such an early age. <\/p>\n
\u2018Michael had a really bad childhood,\u2019 he said. \u2018I was blessed with a great childhood. \u2018Maybe Michael missed out on a lot, so he tried to live his childhood when he was older. \u2018I don\u2019t feel like I missed out on anything.
