Jamir opts out: Veteran Naga politician Dr S.C. Jamir has taken the call by setting aside all speculations about his candidacy when he announced that he would not contest the February 23 election. <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Jamir, is the sole surviving member of the Naga People\u2019s Convention (NPC) that was instrumental in creation of Nagaland state in 1963 and served as chief minister on four occasions, in 1980; 1982-1986; 1989-90 and 1993-2003. His last assignment was as the Governor of Goa and also Maharashtra from 2005 to 2010. <\/p>\n<p>Nagaland Post had indicated that Dr. Jamir was unlikely to contest the 26 Aonglenden assembly seat which he won in all assembly elections, barring the defeat in the 2011 by election for the same seat.<br \/>\nDr. Jamir, in a statement issued Sunday, disclosed that he made his decision after AICC president Sonia Gandhi asked him \u201cnot to be in the hustings\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He said it was to ensure that he could play a more effective role in the party and the state by being \u201cmore visible in the electioneering at all important places\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;Jamir reminded that he had served the state and the nation for over six decades and that as a \u201cdisciplined Congress man\u201d he would abide by the decision of the Congress High Command.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">39 Sanis:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in a significant development, veteran Congress member Thomas Lotha will contest as an independent for the 39 Sanis assembly constituency on being denied party ticket. <\/p>\n<p>This was disclosed in a statement issued by Congress members of 39 Sanis ACCC- Phyophio Ezung, Zubemo Lapon and Merenla Mozhui.<\/p>\n<p>They also disclosed that after the emergency meeting held to discuss the present political development related with the Congress party ticket distribution, all ACCC members have resolved to \u201cresign en mass\u201d from the Congress to support Thomas Lotha as independent candidate. <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">8 Western Angami:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Huzo Meru, a former head of a Bible College, has declared his candidature for the 8 Western Angami assembly constituency at a public meeting held at Western Angami Public Organisation(WAPO) ground at Sech\u00fc-Zubza Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Meru disclosed that his objective for entering election was to bring change to the present trend of politics with innovative development of his constituency, which he claimed, remained neglected for years.<\/p>\n<p>He also maintained that in order to bring positive changes for the welfare of the community, church leaders must get involved in politics. <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">11 Northern Angami -II: <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Congress candidate for 11 Northern Angami -II A\/C Kevise Sogotsu Sunday sought support of his native village Chiechama on February 23 against sitting NPF member and chief minister Neiphiu Rio in a straight contest. At the meeting, Kevise highlighted the plight of many educated unemployed youth of the constituency.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">18 Chozuba:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Vezokho Chotso has announced his candidature for 18 Chozuba A\/C. Describing his constituency as the most backward in terms of infrastructural development, Vezokho made commitment to bring about positive change including generation of avenues for youth self-employment.<\/p>\n<p>Vezokho would take on former parliamentary secretary, social welfare and women development, Chotisuh Sazo who won the seat in 2008 election as an independent candidate.<\/p>\n<p>38 Wokha:<br \/>\nIntending NCP candidate for 38 Wokha assembly constituency Dr. T.M Lotha received a boost when&nbsp; Congress Committee members from Sankitong Village under 38 Wokha A\/C resigned from Congress to support him. <\/p>\n<p>According to C. Renponthung Ezung Media Cell, NCP, 38th Wokha A\/C, the members were VCC president Tsenbemo Khuvung, VCC secretary Chumremo, and VCC treasurer Yanrenthung Tsanglao. <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">59 Siyuchong-Sitimi:<\/span><br \/>\nLingko Sangtam has declared his candidature for 59 Siyuchong-Satimi against sitting MLA C. Kipili Sangtam. Lingko will be making his electoral debut likely on BJP ticket.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">12 Tseminyu:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;NPF Tseminyu division at the annual general meeting held Sunday at Ngvuphen Village,&nbsp; strongly recommended that sitting MLA of the NPF and parliamentary secretary, horticulture R. Khing be issued NPF ticket for the coming elections.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting which was attended by office bearers from all 7 ranges, division office bearers and office bearers from the central office presented their reports with much confidence of achieving another thumping victory in the 2013 polls.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting also approved and released the party manifesto for 12 Tseminyu A\/C.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">33 Asuto-Suruhuto:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Veteran Congressman and former minister Kiyezhe Aye kicked started his campaign with a dedicatory prayer at his native village Aichi Saghemi on January 25.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the villagers, Kiyezhe made a commitment to not only to work for the people of the constituency but also the people from the village. The Congress candidate from 33 Asuto-Suruhuto Assembly Constituency also re-affirmed to strive for development for which he sought the blessings and prayers of the people of his village. <\/p>\n<p>It may be mentioned that Kiyezhe Aye entered the political arena in 1982 and won the 33 Asuto-Suruhuto A\/C. He also won in 1987, lost in 1989 but retained it in 1993, won uncontested in 1998 but in the 2003 Assembly elections. <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><\/p>\n<p>34-Aghunato:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Hukiye N.
