It\u2019s been a long time coming, but legendary actress Maureen O\u2019Hara finally received her first Oscar on November 8, at the academy\u2019s Governors Awards ceremony. The 94 year old actress is being honoured for her lengthly film career which began in 1938.\nBorn in Dublin, O\u2019Hara went on to star in more than 60 films, acting up until 2000 when her final movie, The Last Dance was completed.
\nIn 1941 she starred in John Ford\u2019s Oscar winner How Green Was My Valley, but she is perhaps best remembered for her work opposite John Wayne. O\u2019Hara and Wayne made several films together including Rio Grande, The Wings Of Eagles and The Quiet Man.
\nO\u2019Hara also starred in the original Miracle on 34th Street and the Parent Trap in 1961 opposite Hayley Mills.
\nThe 94 year old said she cried when she heard the news of the special Oscar, and broke down again when discussing the honour during a recent interview.
\n\u201cIt\u2019s just absolutely wonderful,\u201d she said. \u201cI keep thinking, \u2018Oh, this is a league of baloney. They\u2019re not telling me the truth\u2019.\u201d
\n\u201cIt\u2019s hard to know how you\u2019re going to say thank you to all the people you should say thank you to,\u201d she said, \u201cso it\u2019s going to be very difficult.\u201d
\nHowever the actress has already decide where she\u2019ll keep the statue, on top of the fireplace. \u201cHigh enough so one of the kids can\u2019t knock it down!\u201d she joked.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
