Tikhir and general secretary W. Tothong Philip said the bandh was called due to the \u201cfailure and non-response\u201d of the government to TTC\u2019s demand for the revocation of office memorandum issued by the state government June last year that indigenous\/backward tribe certificates were to be issued only in the name of recognized tribes and not Tikhir tribe as it was yet to be recognized.<\/p>\n<p>TTC said that the bandh was called with the slogan \u201cJustice delayed is justice denied\u201d as the council along with Tikhir Students\u2019 Union (TSU) had no other options to press for their demand.<\/p>\n<p>The council further warned that if the government still failed to address their grievances, the Tikhis would go for an indefinite bandh till their demands were met. TTC has also appealed to the public to bear with the council for the inconvenience likely to be caused due to the 48-hr bandh. <\/p>\n<p>It may be mentioned that a representation TTC addressed to the chief secretary on January 23 had served one week ultimatum on the state government over the issue.
