He highlighted the brief accounts of voluntary blood donation in India since 1942 and the first observation of the NBD Day every 1st October 1970s till date. <br \/>\nCiting his experiences as a blood donor Tokugha said that there are no side effects, danger and loss of blood or physical weakness post donation. A healthy male can donate blood upto 4 times and female 3 time a year, he informed. According to him a person can donate as much as 168 times and added that any individual can donate blood ranging from 18-60 years of age; 45 kg and above and Blood Pressure (BP) 80-150 lowest and highest respectively.<br \/>\nEarlier, special song was presented by Vekali Sumi and the formal gathering ended with Jesse Achumi president OTYF who said the benediction.<br \/>\nOther highlights of the day were essay writing and painting competition: the essay was won by Bovika and Kughaka stood as second; painting competition was jointly won by Kumghavito and Tokutoli stood as the second position.<br \/>\n&nbsp;(Correspondent) <br \/>\nKOHIMA: National Voluntary Blood Donation Day\u201d was observed at Kohima Wednesday&nbsp; under the theme \u201cGive the gift of life; donate blood\u201d organized by voluntary blood donors association, Kohima and Modern College Kohima and supported by Nagaland State Blood Transfusion Council, Nagaland State Aids Control Society and Blood Bank NHAK.&nbsp;&nbsp; Addressing the gathering, administrator, Kohima Municipal Council, Lithrongla Tongpi said that blood is precious and important for a human life.<br \/>\n&nbsp;Urging the students to donate blood, she said that as Christians, the best example is Jesus Christ who shed all his blood to save the world. She therefore, asked the gathering to give the gift of life. Lithrongla Tongpi also handed out the certificates to different institutions who have earlier participated in Blood donation drive.<br \/>\nProject Director, NSACS, Dr. L. Watikala while giving the significance of the day said that the National Voluntary Donors Day started on October 1, 1975 to create awareness, to safe needy persons, to have enough blood for any eventuality and also to inspire those who donate blood only to relatives. <br \/>\nShe said that it is also observed to acknowledge the donors who were the unsung heroes in saving many lives and also to unknown persons who donated blood for their gift of life.<br \/>\nSPO, NHM, Dr. Limaakum Jamir who delivered a speech on importance of blood donation\u2019 said that blood is the vital fluid of life without which one cannot live. <br \/>\nHe also spoke on the importance of knowing ones blood group which could save some precious time during emergencies as nobody know when they will need blood.
