One-day sensitization programme on \u201ccommunity based child protection mechanism\u201d was organised by District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) at DRDA conference hall, Mon town with DC, Honje Konyak as special guest on May 20.  <\/div>\n
DCPO Samuel Kapu in his keynote address spoke on the significance of community participation in bringing about the care and protection of the child. He further introduced the committees and institutions supporting the child protection mechanism.<\/div>\n
Deputy commissioner, Honje Konyak urged the participants to make sure that every child was not denied the rights entitled to them since there were numerable cases of abuse and child labour, most of which were unreported. He encouraged the participants to fight against abuse and discrimination happening to children and identify forms of abuse in domestic sphere and report to the committees at the village level.<\/div>\n
Raitale Zeliang, programme manager, SCPS, spoke on the mechanism of ICPS and the roles of village level committees and the need to follow by the norms of the law for processes related to children in need of care and protection and children in conflict with law. She also mentioned that CHILDLINE 1098 was an emergency outreach service for children in need of care and protection.<\/div>\n
Participants from the village level, NGOs, World Vision and CWC members also spoke and shared their views during the open house discussion.<\/div>\n
