United States consul general Kolkata, Helen LaFave Monday visited St. Joseph\u2019s college, Jakhama and interacted with the students on the US-India relationship: cooperation in Higher Education.<\/div>\n
According to a press release, the consul general gave a brief description of the work of US consulate in Kolkata. She also explained the existing relationship between India and US in the fields of trade, education, security, economic development and diplomatic relations between the two countries.<\/div>\n
On a question on how \u201cwe can build a stronger relationship between the US and the Nagas in the field of education\u201d, Helen said she was impressed with the current progress in \u201cour educational system\u201d and opined that student exchange programmes, use of technology to network and other various scholarship schemes could further enhance the ties. <\/div>\n
Other topics such as economics, climate change, poverty, impact of Indian politics to USA, and Indo-US relations were discussed. <\/div>\n
The programme started with a welcome address by students\u2019 council president Njulo Kent. St. Joseph\u2019s college principal Fr. Abraham Lotha highlighted the courses offered by the college. <\/div>\n
The programme was attended by leaders of the various departments, clubs and associations, college student community and lecturers.  St. Joseph\u2019s college vice-principal Ranit proposed the vote of thanks.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
