{"id":151748,"date":"2013-08-19T23:35:21","date_gmt":"2013-08-19T23:35:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2013\/08\/19\/nttu-resolves-to-plant-1-l-tree-saplings-every-year\/"},"modified":"2013-08-19T23:35:21","modified_gmt":"2013-08-19T23:35:21","slug":"nttu-resolves-to-plant-1-l-tree-saplings-every-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2013\/08\/19\/nttu-resolves-to-plant-1-l-tree-saplings-every-year\/","title":{"rendered":"NTTU resolves to plant 1 L tree saplings every year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/PPOEYGWLADELTYCQJIZE.jpg>As part of the union\u2019s \u201cafforestation drive\u201d Nagaland Timber Traders\u2019 Union (NTTU) has resolved to plant 1 lakh tree saplings every year in districts affected by logging.<\/p>\n<p>This was resolved Monday at NTTU&nbsp; meeting at Hotel Japfu which was attended by presidents and members of timber associations from Phek, Kohima, Dimapur, Peren and Kiphire districts.<\/p>\n<p>The union also entrusted presidents of respective district timber unions affiliated to NTTU to enquire whether the forest department and village councils were implementing the policy under the \u201cworking scheme\u201d whereby 10% of fund under this scheme was earmarked for afforestation. <\/p>\n<p>The district NTTU units placed before NTTU their demands of tree saplings suitable to their respective districts and pledged to undertake the afforestation drive with all seriousness. NTTU also assured the districts to provide maintenance fund towards the drive.<\/p>\n<p>Further, NTTU also resolved to pressure the government to issue \u201cworking scheme\u201d permits to genuine forest covered villages and timber extractable areas only. <\/p>\n<p>To this effect, the union later submitted a representation to the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF). <\/p>\n<p>The representation stated that presently, the working scheme was being manipulated by non-local timber brokers, thereby depriving genuine Naga timber operators in many ways. <\/p>\n<p>NTTU in the representation requested the PCCF and forest department to consult with NTTU for identification of \u201cgenuine\u201d Naga timber operators before issuing any new working scheme so that only \u201cgenuine\u201d Naga timber operators avail the scheme.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, in the meeting NTTU president, Kevise Sogotsu, highlighted on the plight of Naga timber operators and traders including numerous taxations and manipulations of timber business by non-local businessmen who have bought majority of the working schemes. <\/p>\n<p>Presidents of Phek, Peren, Kiphire and Kohima district timber associations including Sanyi Dukru, N John Zeliang, JB Shahoto and Thekrupa and NTTU Dimapur in-charge, Husca Sumi, also apprised NTTU on the problems faced by respective district.
