Nagaland parliamentary secretary, higher education & SCERT Deo Nukhu officially launched the programme for declaring the autonomous status of Kohima Science College Jotsoma (KSCJ) at the college\u2019s auditorium on Tuesday. \nWith this, KSCJ became the first government college in the state and it became the second college with a autonomous status after Pakai Christain College. Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Nukhu said with the autonomous status, the college now needed better infrastructures to shoulder bigger responsibilities. Acknowledging the effort and farsighted vision of the college\u2019s founding members, Nukhu appealed the Jotsoma village council to protect the college\u2019s campus from land encroachment.
\nHe advised the college students\u2019 union to take up initiative for better sports facilities in the college stating that education was not only reading and writing but also required physical fitness. Nukhu suggested the college\u2019s alumni and faculty members to form science society and contribute something good to the society with research work.
\nDirector for higher education C. Khalong in his speech said that the autonomous status was a great beginning and said the college should now be more responsible and accountable.
\nHe also advised the college to keep in touch with other 441 autonomous colleges in other parts of the country and have a sense of competitive spirit. Commissioner & secretary higher & technical education F.P. Solo in his address said the college from the humble beginning reached the milestone and appealed the students to live up to the vision of the college pioneers.
\nAdvisor Jotsoma village council D Peseyie in his short speech said that the long felt dream of the village was fulfilled and it will have positive impact on the students community. He urged the authority to address the land encroachment issue without further delay.
\nThe programme was chaired by assistant professor KSCJ Dr. Seyiekhrielie Whiso; welcome address was delivered by KSCJ principal Dr. Vituo Belho; invocation prayer was proposed by Megono joint director higher education.
\nSpecial songs were presented by Vibeizonuo and KSCSU, while vote of thanks was tendered by Dr. Vizovol Mekro associate prof. KSCJ.
