Nicole Kidman\u2019s family is in shock after the star\u2019s father died in Singapore. \nAccording to the Australian press, Dr Anthony Kidman was in the Southeast Asian country to visit Nicole\u2019s younger sister Antonia Kidman, who lives there with her husband Craig Marran and their six children. Nicole\u2019s publicist Wendy Day said:\u201d The family is in shock and is grieving…I think that some time and privacy is needed to deal with this shock and tragedy.\u201d
\nIt is believed that the doctor, who was in his 80s, fell in his hotel room shortly after having breakfast. He was then taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital around 10am local time and was pronounced dead a short time later. Dr Kidman was a clinical psychologist at Royal North Shore Hospital and a director of health psychology at the University of Technology Sydney. He was awarded an Order of Australia medal in 2005 for his services to health.
\nThe UTS Vice-Chancellor Professor Attila Brungs paid tribute to his colleague in statement, saying: \u201cIt is with great sadness that we learn of Dr Tony Kidman\u2019s sudden passing.
\n\u201cDuring his 43 years at the University of Technology, Sydney, Tony has contributed greatly \u2013 as a colleague, as a researcher, and as a health practitioner.\u201d
\n\u201cTony will be missed by all at UTS. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.\u201d
\nThe Kidmans are incredibly close and the family was last together in January when Anthony and his wife Janelle celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. In June, the Cold Mountain star attended a red carpet gala with her father and husband Keith Urban.
\nNicole has said of him: \u201cHe\u2019s a great father, I can call him at three in the morning and he\u2019s there for me.
\nShe previously spoke about how her father supported her ambitions when she was growing up. \u201cBy the time I was a teenager, I had developed skills as a writer,\u201d she said. \u201cMy father encouraged me to think about a career in journalism.
