With the aim to promote and conserve the biodiversity and also to spread awareness on environmental protection, the Western Angami Youth Organization (WAYO) has organized a tree plantation drive in the Western Angami region on July 12.\nOver 100 volunteers from all the Western Angami villages took part in the plantation drive led by WAYO officials.
\nWith 2014 marked as the \u2018Year of Plantation,\u2019 WAYO initiated the drive mainly to make an effort towards preventing the loss of green cover and promoting afforestation in its region.
\n\u201cThe Western Angami region is blessed with rich flora and fauna, but the massive forest destruction being carried out in every nook and corner is growing to be a big concern. And if this prolongs, we only have to blame ourselves for failing to protect our environment,\u201d said Zievi Meyase, secretary Environment Protection, WAYO.
\nMeyase further said the plantation drive is a step towards encouraging more people to plant trees with the call to go green.
\n\u201cWith climate change and global warming becoming a serious issue for world leaders today, let us also contribute our due share towards preserving the ecology, keeping in mind that it is also affecting us directly,\u201d he added.
\nStating that the drive to go green cannot be fully accomplished without a collective effort from the public, he urged everyone concerned to keep on planting trees as and where possible.
\nThe plantation drive was carried out in Jotsoma, Khonoma, Mezoma, Mezo-Basa, Sech\u00fcma, Kiruphema, Peducha, Menguzouma and Sech\u00fc Zubza. WAYO said that some villages which were missed out on that day including Dz\u00fcleke and Thekrejuma would soon be covered in the coming days.
\nMeanwhile, WAYO has thanked all the volunteers who took part in the plantation drive, while it also extended appreciation to all the unit officials for their participation and cooperation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
