The advert was released in Thailand earlier this year to promote their new charcoal doughnut.<\/p>\n<p>But Human Rights Watch have criticised the move, saying that American audiences would have been outraged at the advert.<\/p>\n<p>A female model with dark skin and bright pink lips is used in both television commercials and posters. She holds the chocolate doughnut with the slogan \u2018Break every rule of deliciousness.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Phil Robertson, the deputy Asia director for Human Rights Watch, said: \u2018It\u2019s both bizarre and racist that Dunkin\u2019 Donuts thinks that it must color a woman\u2019s skin black and accentuate her lips with bright pink lipstick to sell a chocolate doughnut. \u2018Dunkin\u2019 Donuts should immediately withdraw this ad, publicly apologize to those it\u2019s offended and ensure this never happens again.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>They added that American audiences would react with \u2018howls of outrage\u2019 if the advert had been used there.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, the campaign has not caused outrage in Thailand, reportedly because the use of racial stereotypes in advertisements is common.<\/p>\n<p>Karen Raskopf, Chief Communications Officer, Dunkin\u2019 Brands, said: \u2018Dunkin\u2019 Donuts recognizes the insensitivity of this spot and on behalf of our Thailand franchisee and our company, we apologize for any offense it caused. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018We are working with our franchisee to immediately pull the television spot and to change the campaign.\u2019<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dunkin\u2019 Donuts have been called \u2018bizarre and racist\u2019 after using an advert featuring a \u2018blacked up\u2019 model.
