After the clearance, the merger of the NCP Nagaland unit with the state BJP was formally done on June 16 he said.
It may also be noted, that the three legislators who had merged the NCP with the BJP and officially declared it on June 16 were yet to receive the assent of the Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. It was informed that the Speaker had returned to the state capital Monday after being out of station for a few days .
Nagaland unit of the NCP had maintained earlier, that its national party president Sharad Pawar had written to the Speaker requesting the latter not to accept the merger since the three MLAs had been suspended from the party. The state NCP has also maintained that since the three had not resigned from the party before joining BJP, they could not be members of both parties. Further, the NCP unit had on June 21, also written to the NLA speaker to disqualify the three MLAs.
Calls made to the Speaker to enquire about the case went unanswered.
Imtilemba responds to NCP state unit office bearers
Responding to the various claims that NCP and BJP state units’ “merger” took place without proper consultation within state NCP, MLA Imtilemba Sangtam Monday said several rounds of consultations were held in different places on the issue with party ranks and files.
In a press release, Imtilemba claimed that the merger took place in the interest of general public and for the development and prosperity of the state. Claiming that the three MLAs were now BJP members, Imtilemba said it was unfortunate that NCP party suspended them when the question of suspension and expulsion did not arise in this case.
