{"id":158213,"date":"2014-04-21T00:10:26","date_gmt":"2014-04-21T00:10:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2014\/04\/21\/orientation-prg-for-butchers-in-mkg\/"},"modified":"2014-04-21T00:10:26","modified_gmt":"2014-04-21T00:10:26","slug":"orientation-prg-for-butchers-in-mkg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2014\/04\/21\/orientation-prg-for-butchers-in-mkg\/","title":{"rendered":"Orientation prg for butchers in Mkg"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/TEPHYFNDXFVSHWHIWFSA.jpg>An \u201corientation programme for meat vendors\u2019 was conducted by the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerece &amp; Industries (MCCI) Sunday at its conference hall.<br \/>\nThe resource persons were research assistant, disease investigation unit Dr. Aoyimsen and Dr. Rongsen Longkumer, both from the department of veterinary Mokokchung.<br \/>\nDeliberating on the topic \u201cmanagement of slaughter houses, meat marketing pattern and pricing\u201d, Dr. Aoyimsen stated that agriculture in India is the mainstay of the majority of people and that it contributes around 14% to the gross domestic product (GDP) of the country.&nbsp; He opined that the same context applies with the state of Nagaland which has40% of rural economy coming from the livestock rearing (especially piggery. According to Dr. Aoyimsen, Nagaland is one of the highest rated consumers of meat (pork, beef &amp; chara beef [buffalo]) and therefore there was an urgent need for the policy makers to provide subsidies schemes for piggery and cattle rearing. <br \/>\nHe said proper slaughter houses was a necessity as meat is a very perishable product and that the entrepreneurs should set up hygienic meat vending shops as specified by the concerned department.<br \/>\nSpeaking on \u201chygienic slaughter of animals\u201d, Dr. Rongsen Longkumer lamented that though the world of the Nagas has significantly advanced in the past two to three decades, the system of slaughtering animals for consumption has not changed (hygienically). He said that the public health hazards from meat consumption depends on the efforts of the producers and the sellers but that the main responsibility lies on the hygienic handling of the butchers and the meat handlers.&nbsp; Dr. Rongsen cautioned and briefed the vendors of the critical hazards of physical, biological and chemical due to unhygienic meat handling.<br \/>\nDistrict veterinary officer, Dr. Mapu laid bare that the ultimate welfare of the general public health on the concerted efforts of the governmental agencies and down to the butchers by way of maintaining professionalism.<br \/>\n&nbsp;The superintendent and senior inspector of the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) also delivered short speeches.
