\nThe \u201cFire Service Week\u201d is observed across the country in the memory of 66 fire fighters who laid down their lives while fighting fire at Victoria Dock, Bombay April 14, 1944, popularly known as the \u201cGreat Bombay Dock Fire\u201d. It took days to extinguish the fire, which broke out on a ship \u2013 the SS Fort Stikine \u2013 carrying 1200 tones of explosives. As a result, 336 people including 66 firemen were killed and over thousand people injured.
\nIn a press release, D.I.G (F&ES) Neilasa Sopfii said \u201cThis day is also observed as \u2018martyrs\u2019 day to pay homage to those brave firemen who lost their lives while performing their duties.
\nThis day is also set aside for mass awareness campaigns on fire hazards and safety measures by conducting public education programmes through various methods such as fire safety and evacuation drills, public lectures, demonstrations, mock drills etc., across the country.\u201d
\nAwareness on fire prevention and safety would be held April 14 at following places: Stoppages at Kohima CRPF Jn. Lerie; Mohonkhola Jn.; PHQ Jn.; Old MLA Hostel Jn.; New NST; Keziekie Marketand Tinpati High School Jn. Stoppages at Dimapur: City Tower; Notun Bosti; DC office Jn.; PWD Jn.; MP Road Jn. and Super Market. Mokokchung: Sungkom, Police point and Sewak Gate. Tuensang: Tower clock and High School Jn. Zunheboto: Police point, DC office Jn. and BOC. Mon: New site Jn.; Night Station and Bazaar line Jn. Wokha: Police point; Zero point and Longsa Gate. Phek: Police point; Bethany colony; Hospital Jn.; DC office Jn.; High School Jn. and Police check gate (Bible Hill). Chumukedima: Sieurhuza; 2nd Gate; Chumuke-dima Bazar; Sovima Jn. and 2nd Gate. Kiphire at DC office \u2013 Bazaar point – Police point. The programme would start at 8 a.m.
\nThe following fire exigencies have been issued for safety and compliance.
\n1. Call and inform Fire Services immediately as and when Fire breaks out. Don\u2019t panic.
\n2. Don\u2019t misuse Fire Service Telephone numbers, it is a punishable offence.
\n3. Give right and precise information.
\n4. Use appropriate Fire Extinguishers at the initial stage to contain Fire.
\n5. Don\u2019t pour Water on Oil and Electrical Fire. Use appropriate Fire Extinguishers.
\n6. Inform Power Department to cut off power line in the locality to avoid further Disasters.
\n7. Give way to Fire Tenders to pass unobstructed.
\n8. Fire Sirens are not to be used by any other individuals or Organizations. VIPs and other Utility Services may kindly use their respective Sirens.
\n9. Locate the Fire incident spot, guide and show Fire Personnel the shortest possible route.
\n10. Locate source and supply Water at the vicinity of the Fire Incident.
\n11. Don\u2019t disturb or drag the Delivery Hose while Fire Personnel are combating Fire.
\n12. Install Fire Extinguishers, Fire Alarms, Smoke Detectors, Fire Hydrants and Sprinkler systems at Homes.
\n13. Every household should maintain a small water tank to meet any Fire Hazards before Fire Personnel arrive.
\n14. Kitchen Fire\/Gas, Candles, Lamps, etc., should be properly extinguished when not in use.
\n15. Use Certified and Standard Electrical appliances viz., Wires, Plugs, Fuse, Switches, Sockets, etc.
\n16. Prepare Family Fire Evacuation Plans and have regular Mock Drills.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
