The hospital has now installed a new state of the art Blood Component Separation Unit (BCSU) which would be formally inaugurated soon. <\/p>\n<p>BSCU is used for separation of blood into four blood components &#8212; red blood cells, platelets, plasma and cryoprecipitate and can store blood up to more than 30-45 days at the temperature of 2-6 C.<\/p>\n<p>With the installation of BCSU, patients needing the facility would no longer be required to travel to Guwahati or other states as the component separation unit is now ready to function. Funded by National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), BCSU was worth Rs. 1.2-1.5 crore. <\/p>\n<p>Model blood bank in-charge, Dr. Temsu announced this at the awareness and sensitization programme on voluntary blood donation held at civil hospital auditorium, Dimapur.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Temsu also informed that the blood bank at district hospital collected over 5000 units every year and catered to not only the needy within the state but also neighbouring states. <\/p>\n<p>NSACS project director, Dr. N.L Changkija who was also present on the occasion said that it had taken a good number of years for Nagas to acknowledge the importance of blood donation. She also highlighted on the privileges of having a donor\u2019s card which could be used anywhere without discrimination to get free blood.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Lima of Nagaland state blood transfusion council, Kohima also briefed on the importance of voluntary blood donation.
