KOHIMA: Voluntary Blood Donor Association (VBDA) in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland Branch (IRCSN) Friday observed the World Blood Donor Day&nbsp; (WBDD) under the theme \u2018Give the gift of life: donate blood\u2019 at State Academy Hall Kohima. <\/p>\n<p>The programme which was jointly organized with District Prevention and Control Unit Kohima District and Kohima Voluntary Blood Donor Association was graced by minister for youth resources and sports, Merentoshi Jamir as the chief guest.<\/p>\n<p>Impressed by large turnout of young people and students coming forward to donate blood, Jamir appealed to the young generation to come forward and create awareness in the remote places.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed gratitude to all the voluntary blood donors for their \u201cnoble job\u201d and at the same time urged the donors to carry forward the message, the importance of donating blood and educate the young ones.<\/p>\n<p>Minister for youth resources and sports also appealed the state sports persons to donate blood and assured all possible help from the department to conduct awareness camp for the same.&nbsp; On the occasion, the minister also voluntarily donated blood.<\/p>\n<p>State programme officer, Dr. Limaakum Jamir in his short speech said&nbsp; the commemoration of WBDD was first started in 2004 and mentioned that World Health Organization (WHO)\u2019s target was to achieve 100% voluntary unpaid blood donation by the year 2020.<\/p>\n<p>He said only 62 countries were nearly achieving 100% and 34 countries i.e. (under developed and developing countries) mostly depend on family donors or by buying the blood.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Limaakum has informed that state has achieved 80% voluntary blood donor and was targeting to increase more adding that more than 200 donors have registered in Kohima. He then thanked all who have been working tirelessly behind the screen to save the people life for want of blood.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, painting competition was organized under the theme \u2018Give the gift of life: donate blood\u2019 under two categories &#8211; College level and High School level with Lanu Pongen, Vikhor Tepa and Mar renowned artists from Kohima as judges. <\/p>\n<p>Seso Tsuhah Aiero of Kohima Science College, Bedukhoyo Kezo of Modern College and Medemtsuba L. Walling of Kohima Science College were judged first, second and third respectively under the college level competition. <\/p>\n<p>While Neiphrezo of Naga Bazaar Baptist School, Vilakienyu of Khedi Baptist School and Mhieneizoutuo Lhousa of Naga Bazaar Baptist School were judge first, second and third respectively under the School level competition. The winners were awarded with citations.<\/p>\n<p>During the programme, Seketouzo Haralu, Lhuvesho and Alipoker Aier were felicitated for donating blood more than 10 times. Altogether 15 blood donors including the chief guest donated blood on the occasion of WBDD.<span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> (Correspondent)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Mon: <\/span>Mon district observed \u2018World Blood Donors Day\u2019 under the theme \u2018Give the Gift of Life &#8211; Donate Blood\u2019 Friday at council hall, Mon with MLA and chairman NKVIB &amp; DPDB, Mon N. Thongwang Konyak as the guest speaker.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the occasion Thongwang lauded the voluntary blood donors and described them as the saviour of life and the heroes of the society. <\/p>\n<p>Asserting that blood, brain, soul and breath are the most important aspects of life gifted by God, the guest speaker said except for blood one cannot donate brain, soul and breath to save the lives of others. <\/p>\n<p>Therefore, he appealed the gathering to come forward and voluntarily donate blood to save lives and receive blessing from Almighty. <\/p>\n<p>He also urged upon the gathering to remove their fears and doubts, and the wrong notion of weakening the health after blood donation and asked the gathering to disseminate the information to others.<\/p>\n<p>Thongwang also felt the need of organizing such programme in the grass root levels for mass awareness and assured to provide all possible assistances to the organization in the future. <\/p>\n<p>Deliberating on \u2018basics on voluntary blood donation\u2019, Dr. Yanang said that there were only 165 voluntary blood donors in the district and out of which 41 have donated their blood. He said the donors were from DC office and Mon Theological College. <\/p>\n<p>He also said that Mon hospital was functioning without pathologist and felt the need of having a pathologist in the district hospital, Mon to ensure safe blood transfusion.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Yanang said the purpose of observing the day was to give wide awareness on safe donation of blood. <\/p>\n<p>He also spoke on the history of blood transfusion of blood, ethical aspects, blood transfusion and safety measures, strengthening health system, and national blood policy, and informed that 92 millions of people donate blood every year worldwide. <\/p>\n<p>The event was marked by drawing and painting competitions on blood donation, special number by KBCM Youth Choir, solo by T. Angam, presentation and recognition of VBD and prize distributions. Earlier, Motivator speech was proposed by Nyenmei.<\/p>\n<p>The programme was jointly organized by DAPCU, MSF, NRHM, Turning Point Org. Shansham Org. YASS, Evergreen Welfare Society, NUN, CHAI, RRC and World Vision India. The Guest Speaker also gave away the prizes to the winners of the painting and drawing competitions.<\/p>\n<p>Wokha: Wokha district Friday observed \u2018World Blood Donors Day\u2019 at District Hospital, Wokha under the theme \u2018Give the Gift of Life; Donate Blood\u2019. <\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the occasion, deputy commissioner, Wokha, Vyasan R. said donating blood cause no harm or effect the functioning of the body and urged the people to come forward to donate blood adding \u201cWe are saving somebody\u2019s life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Medical Officer, Dr. Immanuel Yanthan speaking on the theme highlighted the basic of why we should donate blood.<\/p>\n<p>Essay and painting competition for colleges and schools students was also organized on the day.<br \/>\nMarking the occasion, voluntary blood donation drive was also carried out where many donors turned out to donate blood. <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Zunheboto: <\/span>Zunheboto district under the aegis of District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) observed \u2018World Blood Donors Day\u2019 under the theme \u2018Give the Gift of life; Donate Blood\u2019 Wednesday at Youth Hall Zunheboto with deputy commissioner Zunheboto L. Akato Sema as the chief guest. <\/p>\n<p>In his speech, the DC encouraged the students to donate blood to save a life and added that by doing so God would bless them in return.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Akaho Awomi spoke on myths and misconception of donating blood where he mentioned that due recognition should be given to all the voluntary blood donors. The programme also included the formation of Zunheboto District Voluntary Blood Donors Association.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, a literary session for the students including painting, essay and slogan writing competition was held. <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Mokokchung: <\/span>To mark the \u2018World Blood Donors Day\u2019 Mokokchung District Blood Donor Association organized the programme under the theme \u2018Give the Gift of life; Donate Blood\u2019 Friday at the Conference Hall, Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH) with SP Mokokchung, Vikram Khalate as the Chief Guest.<\/p>\n<p>The Chief Guest in his speech said that there was always a joy in helping people and that the success of the joy was extending help towards others in times of need. <\/p>\n<p>Taking into account the shortage of blood in the blood bank at IMDH Mokokchung, the SP also suggested to the staffs to create awareness of donating blood through the media and letting the people understand that donating blood was healthy and would be helpful. He further added \u201cwhatever little things we have in our capacity, we have to give to the society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the programme, few individuals who have donated blood for more than five times were also felicitated where Er. Temsuwati was acknowledged for donating blood for 44 times.<\/p>\n<p>Significant of the day was delivered by MO Blood Bank, IMDH, Dr. Chubala. As part of the programme, slogan and painting competition was also held. <\/p>\n<p>Students from six Higher Secondary Schools participated in the painting competition, while students from school of nursing, Fazl Ali College and Peoples College Mokokchung participated in the Slogan competition. Personnel of 31 Assam Rifles also donated blood on the day.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Tuensang: <\/span>Tuensang district observed world \u2018Blood Donors Day\u2019 under the theme \u2018Give the Gift of Life; Donate Blood\u2019 organized by DAPCU Tuensang at Police Baptist Church 3rd NAP Tuensang on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The function witness the launching of Tuensang district voluntary blood donors association (VBDA) under the initiative of DAPCU Tuensang with David Khiam as president and Langa as general secretary along with four other members.<\/p>\n<p>During the progarmme, special number was presented by Gabriel Ministry Tuensang followed by word of encouragement by secretary Indian Red Cross Society Tuensang, T.Y. Sangtam.<\/p>\n<p>Short speech was delivered by deputy CMO, Dr T. Pangjung&nbsp; Sangtam followed by awareness programme. Dr. Tochi, MO, BB DH, David TOT and Hankiu TOT were the resource person. Spot voluntary blood donation was carried out after the programme.<\/p>\n<p>Peren: Peren District Voluntary Blood Donors\u2019 Association (PDVBDA) in collaboration with the District AIDS Prevention Control Unit (DAPCU) Peren organized the \u2018World Blood Donors\u2019 Day\u2019 cum \u2018Blood Donation Camp\u2019 which was attended by 200+ denizens including administrative officers, medical officers &amp; staff, members of Red Cross Society, Peren Town Baptist Church Youth Department, vice principal and scholars of Peren Government College, administrator Baptist High School, All Saints\u2019 Higher Secondary School Students, Jawans of the 18th Assam Rifles, additional superintendent of Police with Police personnel, NGOs and the public of Peren Town. <\/p>\n<p>Words of salutation were said assistant general secretary (PDVBDA Pauheugau Rangkau while ADC, Smita Sarangi enlightened the participants with the significance of the day, in addition she donated her blood.&nbsp; District Program Officer (NVBDCP), Dr. Limatula, spoke on blood Safety. <\/p>\n<p>Winners of the Skit Competition based on the theme: \u2018Give the Gift of Life; Donate Blood\u2019 held on June 13 were awarded with cash prize; All Saints\u2019 Higher Secondary School and Peren Government College was adjusted first and second respectively.
