Following the onset of windy season in recent times, various major jungle fire incidents in and around the state capital has been reported. The jungle fire, which broke out near Chiephobozou village, Kohima Sunday, continued to rage even late Monday evening in spite of the best effort put in to tame the inferno by fire bridge personnel.\nAccording to sources, the fire could not be doused off completely due to windy and vastness of the jungle. In another fresh accident, a major fire broke out near Gariphema village Monday morning and was reportedly spreading towards Botsa village. Fire engines were pressed into service till late evening. When contacted, the fire station Kohima informed that they have been receiving many calls from different locations in and around Kohima about the jungle fire. However, the control room in-charge said the department was yet to confirm the exact locations and specify the area.
\nOld Jalukie forest fire tamed: The district forest officer (DFO) Peren division, Dr. N. Senthil Kumar has informed that fire that broke out at Old Jalukie has been brought under control.
\nDFO Peren division and Range forest officer Jalukie along with territorial staff inspected the fire affected area at Old jalukie community biodiversity reserve and the fire damage was also assessed.
\nDFO Peren and range officer convened an emergency meeting at Old Jalukie including JFMC members and village council and it was found that about 4 ha.of forest area was affected mainly confined to ground fire due to presence leave litters and twigs and there is not much damage done to trees.
\nIt was also found that the fire was doused and controlled by the villagers involving the JFMC and youth on the same night. During the meeting, it was decided that the forest department with the cooperation of the village JFMC would jointly search for offender. Further, the forest department has appealed to the public of the area not to indulge in intentional forest fires both inside and outside the conservation area in future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
