{"id":16527,"date":"2015-10-18T01:07:10","date_gmt":"2015-10-18T01:07:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2015\/10\/18\/five-bands-make-it-through-to-hirc-2015\/"},"modified":"2015-10-18T01:07:10","modified_gmt":"2015-10-18T01:07:10","slug":"five-bands-make-it-through-to-hirc-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2015\/10\/18\/five-bands-make-it-through-to-hirc-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Five Bands make it through to HIRC 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/SOUFJZUZQHXNFAWGDWCC.jpg><\/p>\n<div>Five bands from Nagaland have made it through in the state audition for the Hornbill International Rock Contest (HIRC) held at Regional Centre of Excellence for Music and Performing Arts (RCEMPA), Jotsoma, Saturday.<\/div>\n<div>Three bands \u2013 Sunep Ensemble Band, The Gluttones and Rune Legacy from Dimapur, Monkey Fingers from Kohima and Tune Up from Mokokchung have qualified.<\/div>\n<div>Sunep Ensemble Band had previously won the best Nagaland band in the year 2011 when the contest was still in the Hornbill National Rock Contest stature.<\/div>\n<div>They are the seniors in the currently qualified bands and they have made a comeback with their new genre as pop-rock after an extended vacation.<\/div>\n<div>Saturday\u2019s audition saw a glimmer of hope for the state as all the qualified bands showed prowess, showmanship and quality in their performances.<\/div>\n<div>Although Hornbill International Rock Contest was started in the year 2000, initially as Nagaland Beat Contest, which later was upgraded to a national contest and finally to the present stature, Nagaland has only made a dent in the contest with a debut win in the year 2009 when OFF band secured the top position.<\/div>\n<div>The artistes this year looked quite prospective and the best bet for the prestigious award and with the right guidance, proper jamming sessions, the time for bands from Nagaland to bring laurels to the state may not be that far and more importantly it also is high time Naga bands show the world that when it comes to music they are the real deal.<\/div>\n<div>Even though Saturday\u2019s audition saw a lesser turn-up of bands comparatively, the participating bands especially those that has qualified has enough energy and seriousness in their dealings to supplement the very fact that the music scene in Nagaland was still in safe hands and thus will be carried forward.<\/div>\n<div>Most of the qualified bands looked fresh nevertheless they were full of energy and with a little supervision from some of the local experts the bands definitely will shine at the contest.<\/div>\n<div>Judges for the audition were, veteran guitarist Thejove Medeo, experienced bassists Abemo Enyie and Andrew Ngullie who all have been phenomenal in their haydays as renowned products of the state.<\/div>\n<div>With a hefty sum of Rs 10 lacs for the winning band, the prize money of the HIRC is considered as one of the highest for its kind of contests in Asia.<\/div>\n<div>The two runners-up will get a reward of Rs 5 lacs and 2.5 lacs for the first and second positions respectively.<\/div>\n<div>The international guest band for this year\u2019s HIRC will be German power metal band Halloween, more popularly known for their hits like Dr. Stein, Windmill, Keeper of the Seven Keys and If I Could Fly.<\/div>\n<div>They will be performing on the night of December 7 at I.G. Stadium, Kohima.<\/div>\n<div>Halloween is one of the most respected bands in the metal genre and they also have been accredited as the founders of German melodic speed metal.<\/div>\n<div>A lot of the band\u2019s songs have been the choicest songs for local artistes and the same has also been played time and again in the past Hornbill contests.<\/div>\n<div>On night of December 5, Kee Marcello, the guitarist of the band \u2018Europe\u2019 will be performing with his band at Kisama Heritage Village.<\/div>\n<div>Kee Marcello replaced Europe\u2019s original guitarist John Norum in 1986 and has helped Europe attain much of its glory including the song, \u2018The Final Countdown\u2019 reaching number 1 on the singles charts across 25 countries.<\/div>\n<div>This year\u2019s Hornbill Festival is on a course of getting overloaded with excitement with the addition of ABBA in the guest band list.<\/div>\n<div>ABBA tribute band, Platinum Abba will definitely be a crowd puller as for so long as classic techno has been around in Nagaland, ABBA has been around too.<\/div>\n<div>With their never dying songs Money Money Money, Fernando, Dancing Queen, Take a Chance on Me, Chiquitita, The Winner Takes it All, I Have a Dream etc. Platinum ABBA who will be performing on the night of December 2 will not be feeling left out as their songs have adorned every party and social gatherings in Nagaland for the past few decades.<\/div>\n<div>This year\u2019s Hornbill is set to be another season to be remembered with its current line-up of exciting guest artistes.<\/div>\n<div>(Aneila Seyie Kerets\u00fc)<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Five bands from Nagaland have made it through in the state audition for the Hornbill International Rock Contest (HIRC) held at Regional Centre of Excellence for Music and Performing Arts (RCEMPA), Jotsoma, Saturday.
