Cult classic film \u2018Sholay\u2019 box office collections have hit Rs 6.30 crore at the domestic box office in the first three days after its release on January 3 \u2013 38 years after its original release.\nSholay 3D, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar and Hema Malini in their unforgettable roles has been released in a stereoscopic 3D version.
\nWhile Sholay 3D collected Rs 1.50 crore on the opening day (Friday), it did box office business of Rs 4.80 crore over the weekend (Rs 2.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 2.55 crore on Sunday), according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
\nWhile some of the original cast and crew had no objection with Sholay 3D, director Ramesh Sippy had made his anti-release stand very clear. The Bombay High Court, however, rejected his plea seeking a stay on the release of Sholay\u2019s 3D version made by his nephew Sasha over a copyright dispute.
\nThe film\u2019s writers Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan, however, promoted the film in full swing.
\nDirector Ketan Mehta, who was involved in the 3D conversion of Sholay, said revisiting the classic with the new technology was challenging. Producer GP Sippy\u2019s grandsons had approached Mehta for the 3D conversion of the Amitabh Bachchan-Dharmendra starrer through his Maya Digital Studios.
\nComputer-generated graphics have been introduced in certain sequences of Sholay 3D to give the impression of \u201cpopping out of the screen\u201d: such as the collision between the train and a pile of logs; Thakur\u2019s bullet racing towards the handcuffs worn by Jai and Veeru; the bomb blast sequence with Amitabh Bachchan makes believe as if debris will blow itself out of the screen and envelop the viewer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
