State Governor Dr. Ashwani Kumar Friday said that the common people of Nagaland desperately wanted peace to prevail in the state and were desirous of making progress for the sake of their children and future generations.<\/p>\n
The governor said this while delivering a speech at a public\/civic reception at Town Hall Phek. Dr. Ashwani was on a tour to Phek district.<\/p>\n
According to a DIPR report, the governor during his speech said his discussion and interaction with the people of the state in the last five months have revealed that the people of Nagaland wanted peace in the state. <\/p>\n
He said he would examine all the demands, grievances and suggestions made by various organization and individuals as noted by him.<\/p>\n
While expressing concern over the quality of education and shortage of teachers in schools and also over the results of government run schools, Dr. Ashwani also stressed on the need for good hospitals, medical college, paramedical institutions and pathological laboratories in the state. <\/p>\n
He also felt the urgent need for fighting TB and HIV in the state. On development, the governor said roads and electricity were the prime need of the people and the same \u201cmust be ensured.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dr. Ashwani has urged the youth to take up employment other than government jobs in the fields of agriculture, horticulture, poultry, piggery, forestry, agro based industries and infrastructure development. <\/p>\n
He lamented the mismatch between what was being taught in the schools and colleges and what skills were required by the youths to earn livelihood in their own state. <\/p>\n
\u201cThey do not want to work in agriculture on their own land, so we have to immediately re-align our courses and curriculum to issues of livelihood and self-employment\u201d, said the governor.<\/p>\n
While stating that he expected a lot of hope from the people of Phek, the governor said the people have stood for peace and progress and have resisted \u201cterrorism, insurgency and violence in the past.\u201d<\/p>\n
The civic reception function was chaired by DC Phek Neposo Theluo, parliamentary secretary for higher education & SCERT. Deo Nukhu spoke on behalf of the legislators of Phek district while prayer was invoked by Rev. D.N. Soho. Welcome address was delivered by Sovenyi, president Chakhesang Students Union, folk song by Chakhesang Cultural Research Institute, Chetheba. <\/p>\n
The vote of thanks was given by Ghachu Trakha, president of Pochury Public Forum. Thousands of people attended the function.<\/p>\n
During his tour, the governor also visited Phek Civil Hospital and Phek Government College. Thereafter, he interacted with representatives from Pochury Public Forum, Pochury Mothers Association, Pochury Students Union and GBs Association.
