{"id":167463,"date":"2013-01-17T00:39:28","date_gmt":"2013-01-17T00:39:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2013\/01\/17\/candidates-parties-gear-up-for-february-23-polls\/"},"modified":"2013-01-17T00:39:28","modified_gmt":"2013-01-17T00:39:28","slug":"candidates-parties-gear-up-for-february-23-polls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2013\/01\/17\/candidates-parties-gear-up-for-february-23-polls\/","title":{"rendered":"Candidates, parties gear up for February 23 polls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Candidate to fight Rio <\/span><br \/>\nNagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio may again not go uncontested for the 11 Northern Angami-II constituency, a seat he won in 1989,1993,1998,2003 and 2008 despite the overwhelming votes he polled in the 2008 election.<\/p>\n<p>Briefing media persons here today, former candidate for 1 Dimapur-I constituency in the 2008 election,&nbsp; Kevise Sogotsu who hails from T\u00fcch\u00fcma village, has announced he would fight Rio in the February 23 elections from 11 Northern Angami-II constituency. <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;Kevise told media persons in his Walford colony residence,here that he would be contesting with the blessing of Congress party.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>Kevise had contested for 1 Dimapur-I in 2008 as a BJP candidate. He accused Rio of creating&nbsp; an economic distinction during the 25 years where the poor have become poorer. Kevise said only the privileged few were Rio\u2019s followers.<\/p>\n<p>Kevise claimed he was sacrificing for the poor by contesting against Rio who he alleged,&nbsp; was \u201cenjoying government money\u201d that was not earned through hard labour. <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;With his agendas to fight for the right of the common people, he said that the day has come for the common people to rise up and fight for their rights. Kevise also thanked former Congress candidate who contested against Rio in 2008- Sevotso Seyie- for blessing him. <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #ff0000;\">2 ex DMC members to face Chishi <\/span><br \/>\nFormer minister and sitting Congress MLA of Dimapur-I assembly constituency appeared likely to face two former Dimapur Municipal Council(DMC) members on February 23.<\/p>\n<p>The two contestants to face Chishi include- former DMC chairperson, Tovihoto Aye, an intending NPF candidate and former DMC member and advisor DCC (I), Pukhavi Yeptho, likely to contest as an Independent candidate. <\/p>\n<p>Declaring his candidature as a press briefing in his residence in Burma Camp, Pukhavi, said he has also resigned from the Congress as advisor of the DCC to contest against Chishi.<\/p>\n<p>Pukhavi disclosed that the NPCC including people from his village under Ghaspani-II had suggested that he contest from Ghaspani-II but agreed to requests from elders from I Dimapur-I contest from the latter seat. Pukhavi alleged that 1 Dimapur-I constituency has been neglected by the sitting MLA Chishi, who he said was once his pillar. He cited the deplorable road conditions that was the mirror of neglect.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, it was also learnt that Imti John&nbsp; was also contemplating to contest from 1 Dimapur-I constituency.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #ff0000;\">JD (U) bats for fair poll<\/span><br \/>\nJanata Dal (United) JD (U) Nagaland unit has asked Election Commission of India (ECI) whether it could conduct \u201cfree and fair election\u201d under the present circumstances where people were living under \u201cfear psychosis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the media Wednesday here at Hotel Saramati, JD (U) election observer Nagaland, Sushil Kumar said that the people could vote by their \u201cconscience\u201d only when the prevailing \u201cfear psychosis\u201d was removed from the minds of the people. <\/p>\n<p>Kumar said that the real democracy could be exercised only when the prevailing situation was addressed adding that at present, it was not possible to conduct \u201cfree and fair election\u201d even if the poll schedule has been&nbsp; announced.<\/p>\n<p>Stating that JD (U) was committed to all round development of the state and was sincere in expediting the ongoing peace talk for a permanent solution, Kumar said JD (U)\u2019s vision was to create employment and&nbsp; to provide direction to the people in choosing what was right for them. <\/p>\n<p>Blaming \u201cwrong politics\u201d for the under-development Eastern Nagaland, Kumar asserted that with proper economic development, the area could come up at par with the rest of the districts.<\/p>\n<p>JD (U) Nagaland unit is planning to field ten to fifteen candidates in the ensuing assembly election. <\/p>\n<p>However, party members said that any intending candidate wanting to contest under JD (U) was welcome to join the party. The party was expected to come out with the list of candidates on January 20.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #ff0000;\">RJD declares candidates<\/span><br \/>\nRashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Nagaland unit has officially declared party candidates for the forthcoming election due to take place February 23, 2013.<\/p>\n<p>In a press release, RJD state unit general secretary Tokugha Chishi stated that state level executive committee of the party had a meeting in Dimapur on January 15.<\/p>\n<p>At the meeting, the house decided to officially declare three candidates with the approval of party &#8212; Nkhao Lotha, 39 Sanis A\/C, Wokha; Yipholum Mozhiu, 40 Bhandari A\/C, Wokha and R.Sebu, 12 Tseminyu A\/C, Kohima.
