A training program on doubling rural women income through processing and preserving locally available fruits and vegetables was conducted at Zaphumi village, under Zunheboto district by KVK, Nagaland University (NU) Lumami from July 17 <\/span><\/div>\n
to 19.<\/span><\/div>\n
A press release from sr. scientist & head KVK, NU Lumami, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia stated that Narola Anichari (Home Science) welcomed all the participants and highlighted the purpose of conducting the training which was to provide information regarding preservation and processing of various locally available fruits and vegetables. It was targeted at the womenfolk who are engaged in farming, who produces various fruits and vegetables like pineapple, mango, brinjal, chilli, tomato etc. Most of these perishable products require processing and preservation to prolong their shelf lives.<\/span><\/div>\n
The training focused on teaching and demonstrating to the participants preservation methods like making pickles and squash.<\/span><\/div>\n
There are different kinds of vegetables and fruits locally grown in Zaphumi village. The training focused on a few of them to show how the locally available fruits and vegetables could be utilized without wastage.<\/span><\/div>\n
At the end of the training, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia handed over certificates to the participants for attending the training. He also encouraged, and gave useful insights and information to, the gathering. KVK, Nagaland University Lumami also distributed training materials to all the participants. Altogether there were 25 women participants.<\/span><\/div>\n
