{"id":169050,"date":"2013-11-26T01:35:08","date_gmt":"2013-11-26T01:35:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2013\/11\/26\/govt-ngos-need-to-protect-women-pukhayi\/"},"modified":"2013-11-26T01:35:08","modified_gmt":"2013-11-26T01:35:08","slug":"govt-ngos-need-to-protect-women-pukhayi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2013\/11\/26\/govt-ngos-need-to-protect-women-pukhayi\/","title":{"rendered":"Govt., NGOs need to protect women: Pukhayi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/>Government and NGOs need to protect women and wipe out crimes against women and make Nagaland an exemplary state with zero figure violence against women and the girl child.<\/p>\n<p>This was stated by parliamentary secretary women development cooperative &amp; sericulture Pukhayi Sumi while addressing the launching of a fortnight observation on elimination of violence against women held at conference hall Red Cross complex Kohima, Monday as the chief guest. <\/p>\n<p>The programme was organized by Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) under the theme \u201cfrom peace in the home to peace in the world: let\u2019s challenge militarism and end violence against women.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>In his address, Pukhayi opined that any form of violence against women could be termed as inhuman act and pointed out that that violence committed against women were not necessarily related to only physical assaults but also mental and the social stigma that were attached to the victims. <\/p>\n<p>NSCW chairperson Dr. Temsula Ao in her introductory speech said the observance of the fortnight\u2019s activities should not be taken as the end of the efforts at eliminating violence against women. <\/p>\n<p>She said it should be the re-affirmation of life-long commitment in working to build a safe and secure environment. <\/p>\n<p>She also pointed out that when any violence was committed against a girl or woman, the first voice of protest should be raised by men because they were supposed to be protectors of homes and families.<\/p>\n<p>She advised women not to remain quiet if their rights were violated and asked them to get help from many institutions like the special cells in the police set-up, protection officers, EACs of their respective areas, special court and free legal aid services for women and NSCW. <\/p>\n<p>Nodal officer of human rights &amp; anti-human trafficking, Nagaland police, DIG K. Elias in his short speech suggested inheritance rights should cover the girl child.<\/p>\n<p>Advocate C.J. Aier in her address said violence against women should be taken as priority concern by the state government and it was mandatory to look into the matter.&nbsp; Naga Mothers Association (NMA) president Abei-\u00fc Meru also addressed the gathering.<\/p>\n<p>The programme was chaired by Women development director Neilavo\u00fc Keditsu and the invocation prayer was proposed by Athono Rhakho women pastor CBCK. <\/p>\n<p>Special song was presented by Sumi women group Kohima and vote of thanks delivered by Kakheli Jakhalu member NSCW.
