{"id":170744,"date":"2013-09-22T02:22:39","date_gmt":"2013-09-22T02:22:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2013\/09\/22\/initiatives-for-saving-amur-falcon-launched\/"},"modified":"2013-09-22T02:22:39","modified_gmt":"2013-09-22T02:22:39","slug":"initiatives-for-saving-amur-falcon-launched","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2013\/09\/22\/initiatives-for-saving-amur-falcon-launched\/","title":{"rendered":"Initiatives for saving Amur falcon launched"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/KRZPJRHWUSWAEJNSXRTW.jpg>Gearing up for the much awaited Amur falcon migration as they pass through Nagaland during the month of October and November, a function was held on September 19 at Pangti village, Wokha district. <\/p>\n<p>The function attended by Wildlife Trust of India (WTI), Natural Nagas (wildlife organization), state forest department, police officials and village council members of Pangti, Sungro and Ashaa also launched key initiatives for saving the migratory birds.<\/p>\n<p>According to a press release issued by Natural Nagas chairman Steve Odyuo, the main highlights of the function included the launch of Rapid Action Project called \u201cGrain for Grain\u201d where farmers affected by human\/elephant conflict were given a relief of 4950 kgs of rice. <\/p>\n<p>The function also saw the formation of a patrolling squad comprising of 15 members for a period of 3 months from September 20 to December 20 sponsored by WTI. <\/p>\n<p>The members of the squad included reformed hunters and landowners of the main Amur falcon roosting sites and they would be paid wages for the period mentioned. <\/p>\n<p>Signage for awareness and protection of the Amur salcons was also unveiled. The signage would be put up in and around the Amur falcon roosting sites. <\/p>\n<p>The information provided by the signage included restrictions and penalties to be imposed by village councils of Pangti, Sungro and Ashaa who had signed an MoU with WTI and Natural Nagas.<\/p>\n<p>Natural Nagas in collaboration with WTI would monitor and document the passage of the Amur falcons. For the purpose, a base camp on the bank of the Doyang Reservoir would be set up. The camp would house Natural Nagas volunteers besides accommodating media representatives from the country and abroad. <\/p>\n<p>The camp would also have daily awareness activities apart from the daily updates on the Amur falcons for the whole migration period. <\/p>\n<p>Volunteers, birders and nature lovers could contact the Natural Nagas through Natural Nagas Page on FaceBook.
