{"id":172414,"date":"2013-10-14T23:19:07","date_gmt":"2013-10-14T23:19:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2013\/10\/14\/save-amur-falcon-cry-grows-louder\/"},"modified":"2013-10-14T23:19:07","modified_gmt":"2013-10-14T23:19:07","slug":"save-amur-falcon-cry-grows-louder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2013\/10\/14\/save-amur-falcon-cry-grows-louder\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Save Amur Falcon\u2019 cry grows louder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/>Wokha Forest Division has extended \u2018Save Amur Falcon Devotional Service and Signature Campaign\u2019 to several other churches of Sungro, Englan and Sanis ranges encircling Doyang reservoir during the last Sunday Devotional Service after last campaign in the Pangti, Sungro and Aasha villages.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, although, the hunting problem occurred mostly in the Pangti village of the Sungro range, other villages and ranges not only act as markets but also possible alternate roosting habitats for the bird in case of slight shift in the roosting place. <\/p>\n<p>Not taking any chance further, this year and following landscape approach, the forest department has extended awareness programme to whole area surrounding Doyang reservoir.<\/p>\n<p>Special sermons were given quoting relevant verses from The Holy Bible by the Church Pastors enshrining concept of wise stewardship towards creation of the God. <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #ff0000;\">\u2018The Save Amur Falcon Marathon\u2019<\/span><br \/>\nAfter reaching to the people through different mediums like Churches, Schools, and village councils, the Wokha Forest Division with Pangti Village Students\u2019 Union would be reaching to the youth of the Sungro range by organising \u2018The Save Amur Falcon Marathon\u2019 with many attractive cash prizes to be held in Pangti village October 19 at 7 a.m. <\/p>\n<p>PSU president Mathew has appealed to Sungro range people of all age classes for participation. The campaign is coordinated by Kamdi Hemant Bhaskar, DCF, Zuthunglo, ACF and Punseni Khing, RFO. <\/p>\n<p>Supongnukshi Ao, DFO, Wokha Forest Division, and Toviho Sema, RFO, Doyang Beat have extended their gratitude and thanked all the Churches immensely for their cooperation.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #ff0000;\">Amur Falcon awareness programme in Pangti<\/span><br \/>\nPangti village council organized a one-day Amur Falcon awareness programme at the community hall on October 11. <\/p>\n<p>The programme was supported by Wildlife Trust of India, Natural Nagas and the forest department of Nagaland.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting saw an unexpected huge participation from Pangti as well as Sungro. The programme was chaired by the Pangti village Chairman, Rhonchamo Shitri who appreciated the WTI, Natural Nagas and forest department for supporting the awareness programme being held in Pangti, the largest village in Wokha district as well as the most affected area in regard to human\/animal conflict.<\/p>\n<p>Natural Nagas screened short clips of their activities in Pangti, Sungro and Ashaa villages. Steve Odyuo, chairman of the wildlife organisation mentioned that the media has to be sensitive towards the locals who are affected by the human\/animal conflict and to avoid exaggerated and sensational reporting. <\/p>\n<p>The forest department was represented by Hemant, IFS and Zuthunglo Patton, IFS. A power-point presentation by Hemant about Amur Falcons was an eye opener for all those present.<\/p>\n<p>Hemant and Zuthunglo stationed in the area have made a huge contribution to the conservation cause and are in the fore front of the Amur Falcon conservation.<\/p>\n<p>Wildlife Trust of India\u2019s Yuri Pator also gave a presentation on the activities of WTI all across the nation. WTI signed a separate MoU with the govt of Nagaland for wildlife conservation in Nagaland. <\/p>\n<p>It is also worth mentioning that unlike other organisations working in Nagaland, WTI not only spreads awareness for conservation of wildlife but focus on alternative livelihood programmes for the effected people.<\/p>\n<p>The programme saw the screening of wildlife documentaries, performances by popular singers like Tia Lemtor from Kohima, Nzamo Ngullie from Wokha Town, C E M Kyong from Pangti. <\/p>\n<p>Another song on Amur Falcon was performed by school children from Pangti. Short speeches were delivered by Matthew, president, Pangti students union and Zan of fishermen union. <\/p>\n<p>Nyamo Odyuo, GB proposed the vote of thanks and appreciated the efforts made to clear the image of Pangti village \u201cwhich was tarnished due to the reports on the massacre last year\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Posters were also distributed and pasted all over the village. Natural Nagas thanked L Zubemo Odyuo who made a significant and much needed contribution to the organisation. <\/p>\n<p>Natural Nagas has so far, worked through the members\u2019 contributions only and L Zubemo Odyuo the first and only donor who after seeing the efforts, came forward voluntarily and has boosted the morale of the organisation.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, children in the 40-odd schools in the district are taking part for the first time in the IFAW Animal Action Education programme \u2013 the world\u2019s largest animal focused education activity, with the theme \u2018Elephants, Never Forget\u2019. <\/p>\n<p>The AAE programme will make students aware of the problems facing elephants and conservation and welfare initiatives being undertaken around the world to save these majestic giants.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wokha Forest Division has extended \u2018Save Amur Falcon Devotional Service and Signature Campaign\u2019 to several other churches of Sungro, Englan and Sanis ranges encircling Doyang reservoir during the last Sunday Devotional Service after last campaign in the Pangti, Sungro and Aasha villages.
