Dimapur police Wednesday rescued a 13- year old non-local girl from being forced to marry one Sumir Ali (28) son of Altaf Ali of Nagaon (Assam) and a man having a wife, two daughters, one son and a resident of 5 Mile, Model village Dimapur. <\/p>\n
Based on information, that a minor was being coerced to marry a married man, police in civvies along with women cell, located the minor. <\/p>\n
She confessed that Sumir asked her to marry him and threatened to kill her and her mother if she refused. On her confession, police after investigation, arrested the accused. <\/p>\n
Addl. SP & PRO Dimapur police, Wati Jamir said on September 22, Sumir took the girl from her grandparent\u2019s house after threatening suicide with poison if she did not follow him. <\/p>\n
He then took the girl and kept her confined for three days in his friend Fazl\u2019s house at Videma village.
\nOn the complaint of the girl\u2019s mother, the muslim body ordered Sumir to produce the girl. <\/p>\n
She alleged that Sumir had violated her a number of times and threatened to kill her and the mother if she did not marry him. <\/p>\n
Wati said Sumir was asked to pay Rs.1.5 lakh by the Muslim body to the girl\u2019s mother and the amount was negotiated to Rs.70,000 However the mother opposed the marriage and approached Diphupar Police to rescue her daughter.<\/p>\n
The minor, the eldest of seven siblings, lived with her mother, a daily wage labourer and a mentally challenged father. <\/p>\n
Police have also arrested the accused\u2019s mother Shohara Khaton (45) for conspiracy while his second wife Mondu (32) was also being investigated. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
