{"id":173624,"date":"2018-08-08T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-08-08T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2018\/08\/08\/parties-slam-tharoor-s-remark-on-naga-head-dress\/"},"modified":"2018-08-08T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2018-08-08T00:00:00","slug":"parties-slam-tharoor-s-remark-on-naga-head-dress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2018\/08\/08\/parties-slam-tharoor-s-remark-on-naga-head-dress\/","title":{"rendered":"Parties slam Tharoor\u2019s remark on Naga head dress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/http:\/\/new.nagalandpost.com\/cms\/gall_content\/no_images_650x.jpg><\/p>\n<p >&nbsp;Nagaland BJP led the wave of protests by political parties in the state against the recent controversial remark made by Congress Lok Sabha MP Shahshi Tharoor over the &ldquo;hilarious&rdquo; Naga head gear while trying to train his guns at prime minister Modi.<\/p>\n<p >Grabbing the opportunity to slam Tharoor, the state BJP organised a protest rally at Super Market where the Thiruvananthapuram MP&rsquo;s effigy was set on fire.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p >&nbsp;State BJP said at Tuesday&rsquo;s rally, various party members including the BJYM burned the effigy of Tharoor as a symbolic protest. The state BJP in a press statement, slammed Tharror&rsquo;s &ldquo;disdain and insolence&rdquo; shown on the attire of the Nagas which it said, had also crossed all limits and so demanded an outright apology.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p >&ldquo;In his overzealous hate for the prime minister and BJP, Tharoor doesn&rsquo;t mind insulting the rich heritage and culture of the Nagas,&rdquo; party media cell said.<\/p>\n<p >BJP state unit said that by commenting on Modi&rsquo;s refusal to wear certain type of caps Tharoor displayed his own double-standards as he chose not to comment on an event when Congress president Rahul Gandhi refused to wear traditional headgear of one of the south Indian states.<\/p>\n<p >The party described as &ldquo;really shameful&rdquo; for someone who represented the country at the UN and an elected representative, to mock traditional customs of native tribal people.<\/p>\n<p >BJP said that Tharoor insulted and undermined the North East Tribals in general and the Nagas in particular and wondered whether the Congress party president would offer apology for such &ldquo;detesting statement&rdquo; made by a fellow senior party member.<\/p>\n<p >&nbsp;Dy. CM: Nagaland deputy chief minister and BJP legislature party Nagaland, Y Patton, has demanded apology from Shashi Tharoor &ldquo;for insulting the people of Northeast particularly the Nagas.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p >&nbsp;Patton said it was quite unbecoming of a person of Tharoor&rsquo;s stature to make such irresponsible remark that &ldquo;irrevocably hurt the sentiments of the Nagas and the Northeast in general.<\/p>\n<p >Patton said Tharoor ought to have known that Naga traditional headgear depicts the patriotic valour and the rich cultural heritage of the Nagas forefathers. &ldquo;No one has the right to ridicule or make fun of any traditional and cultural heritage of the country,&rdquo; Patton said.<\/p>\n<p >Patton demanded that Shashi Tharoor clarify whether the remark was in his own personal capacity or was the opinion of the Congress party as a whole and also demanded an unconditional apology from Tharoor to the people of the region in the public domain.<\/p>\n<p >NPF: Naga People&rsquo;s Front (NPF) said Tharoor&rsquo;s remark has deeply hurt the sentiments of the Nagas and demanded that he retract his comment as traditional Naga headgear has certain values and honour attached to it.&nbsp; NPF press bureau said the &ldquo;ridiculous remarks&rdquo; of Shashi Tharoor tantamount to discrediting the traditional values and practices of the Nagas.<\/p>\n<p >NPF said it objected to Tharoor dragging the &lsquo;Naga Headgear &lsquo; into the crossfire between BJP and the Congress party and described it as an act &ldquo;very unbecoming&rdquo; of a leader.
