Sendenyu Baptist Church’s (SBC’s) centenary celebrations culminated on December 16 with calls to believers to renew their faith and commitment to the Lord. The 100 years celebration of the Church, which began on December 14, was jointly organised by the SBC and the Council of Rengma Baptist Churches (CRBC).<\/p>\n
A press release from SBC stated that, it had the distinction of being the first church to be established on Rengma soil. On Sunday, during the morning worship service, the SBC acknowledged Rev. Seliezhü Sorhie, an Angami evangelist from Khedi Baptist Church in Kohima village, who was stated to have brought the gospel of Christ to Sendenyu 100 years ago. <\/p>\n
The Church also paid rich tributes to the first converts from the village who went on to become pioneers of Christianity not only in the village but in the other Rengma areas as well.<\/p>\n
Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) general secretary Rev. Dr. Zelhou Keyho delivered a powerful message on the theme of the celebration ‘He has done great things’. He stated that the faith journey of the believers at SBC was a testimony to the love and mercy of God.<\/p>\n
He however reminded the believers that celebrating what they achieved 100 years back should not be the sole purpose of this occasion as they must think of the present and prepare the way for the future. Stating that SBC and its members should enlarge their tents and their thoughts in the ministry perspective, the NBCC general secretary called upon them to be the torch bearers of the Good News to the people.<\/p>\n
Khedi Baptist Church pastor Rev. Viwelie Khezhie in his greeting message, spoke of how the Nagas had come a long way after the Gospel reached their land. He observed that the Naga people are very blessed but somehow over the years, many have become spiritually unsound, missing the purpose for which God made us.<\/p>\n
Besides believers from Sendenyu, delegates from various Rengma villages including from Assam state, neighbouring Angami villages and well wishers participated in the three-day long celebrations.<\/p>\n
In his message to the Sendenyu Baptist Church on the occasion, chief minister Neiphiu Rio who hails from the neighbouring Touphema village, conveyed his best wishes stating the centenary was a time of thanksgiving and asked them to seek God’s blessing for the future. He acknowledged that since the arrival of Christianity the Nagas in general had come a long way from the traditional animistic religion.<\/p>\n
Highlights of the centenary celebrations over the past three days included centenary monolith dedication at Phenuga Memorial Park, dedication of monument at Kehunkathun (first Church site), tribute to early converts from the village, and jubilee celebration at Centenary Memorial Park at Nsonji Lake.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
