Constitution Day (National Law Day) or “Samvidhan Divas”, is celebrated in India on November 26 to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. On November 26, 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India, and it came into effect on January 26, 1950. The Government of India declared November 26 as Constitution Day on November 19, 2015.<\/p>\n

Following are some reports of programs held to mark the day in Nagaland.<\/div>\n
DLSAs: Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA) organized a legal awareness program in observance of ‘Constitution Day’ on November 26 at Dimapur Government College (DGC) auditorium.<\/div>\n
Speaking in the program, Chief Judicial Magistrate and secretary DDLSA, Ajongba Imchen gave a brief introduction on how the Constitution Day was adopted and enacted. He informed the gathering that on November 26, 1949, the Constitution of India along with fifteen articles were adopted and enacted which changed the fate of millions of people in the country.<\/div>\n
Ajongba said that the documentation was regarded as Constitution of India was the outcome of hard work and dedication of the drafting committee led by Dr. B.K.Ambedkar, chairman and first law minister, Government of India.<\/div>\n
Ajongba also explained that the Indian Constitution happened to be most successful one, unlike various other countries where the constitution fails many times.<\/div>\n
He mentioned that on many occasions, the basic philosophy of the Constitution has been challenged and threatened but the judiciary intervened and upheld its supremacy.<\/div>\n
He also explained that Constitution Day celebrates the sovereignty it gives to the people — it guarantees fundamental rights, democracy, an independent judiciary that will protect the rights of the people, promises a secular and inclusive India with assured equality regardless of creed and colour.<\/div>\n
He also called upon the gathering to come out of their cocoons and raise issues in regard to developmental activities in the state. He urged the students to read newspapers to be equipped with news of current events.<\/div>\n
In the program, salient features of the Constitution of India were explained briefly by retainer lawyer, DDLSA, Nathaniel Kevichusa; basic legal rights by panel lawyer DDLSA, Yanbemo Ngullie; immoral trafficking by panel lawyer DDLSA, Kekhrieleii Mezhii; and cyber crime by Rokovitsu Khate.<\/div>\n
Earlier, a welcome note was delivered by principal DGC, Kavili Jakhalu and the program was chaired by panel lawyer DDLSA, Khumchuba.<\/div>\n
Meanwhile, District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) of Mokokchung, Longleng, Mon, Kohima, and Peren observed “Constitution Day” at their respective districts in schools and colleges through legal awareness programs and essay competitions on November 26.<\/div>\n
A press release from Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) public relation assistant stated that Longleng DLSA observed the day through a legal awareness program at Government Yingli College. Hamnyei Angh, project assistant Longleng DLSA, spoke on Constitution: Supreme Law of India; P. Monyei Phom, panel lawyer LDLSA spoke on the Indian Constitution; and Imlichuba Phom, PLV LDLSA spoke on Fundamental Rights and Duties. A welcome speech was delivered by the assistant professor of History.<\/div>\n
In Peren, DLSA observed the day at Government College, Peren. Highlights of district legal service was presented by Enchang, panel lawyer PDLSA; history of Constitution Day by Asungbe, retainer lawyer PDLSA; salient features of the constitution by Italang, advocate; and constitutional provisions for women in India by Asuni, panel lawyer PDLSA. Earlier, a welcome address was delivered by Igong Ipuing, assistant professor.<\/div>\n
A legal awareness program was also held by Kohima DLSA along with college students at the Kohima DC’s conference hall. Mon DLSA held a program at Konjong Higher Secondary School, Mon Town.<\/div>\n
Mokokchung DLSA organized an essay competition in observation of the day at Fazl Ali College on the topic “Constitution of India: A living document” in which 15 students participated.<\/div>\n
PGC: Peren Government College (PGC) Legal Service Cell (LSC) and Peren District Legal Service Authority (PDLSA) along with students observed “Constitution Day” at the PGC auditorium on November 26. A press release by PGC teacher-in-charge legal cell, Igong Ipuing stated that panel lawyer, Inchang highlighted the district legal service system; Asungbe, retainer lawyer, spoke on the history of Constitution Day; Italang, advocate, on the salient features of the constitution in India; and the constitutional provisions for women in India was discussed by Asuni, panel lawyer.<\/div>\n
