The Kohima District Congress Committee (KDCC) has come out strongly against the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) 2016 in the Lok Sabha. <\/p>\n
KDCC press secretary, Yangertemjen, in a press release said that during its first executive meeting for this year on January 23 held at Congress Bhavan, the KDCC discussed at length various issues confronting Naga society. The passage of the controversial CAB on January 8 in the Lok Sabh, was among the things discussed, the release added. <\/p>\n
“The passage of the Bill is a massive threat to the very existence of the indigenous people of the North East region and more so to the Naga people” the KDCC asserted. <\/p>\n
It expressed its view that the CAB 2016 and Inner Line Permit were “two different dimensions” because even without the rights to citizenship, Nagaland has been witnessing unabated influx of illegal immigrants.<\/p>\n
If the approval is granted through the passage of the CAB 2016 in the Parliament, KDCC feared that it would not only give easy access to illegal immigrants but will also be an opportune moment for them to “stumble upon” the rights of indigenous people.<\/p>\n
“Such a Bill, if enacted would cause grave danger as the self-right of the Nagas will slowly disappear and impact the future generation economically, socially and politically” it added.<\/p>\n
The KDCC further stated that as concerned and aware Naga citizens, such a threat cannot be left to the future Naga generations. <\/p>\n
Extending solidarity to Naga Civil Societies rejecting the CAB 2016 in totality, KDCC also appealed to the government of Nagaland to “carefully listen to the outcries” of various Naga tribal and student bodies and raise its voice against the Bill at the Centre.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
