{"id":18955,"date":"2018-06-12T00:41:58","date_gmt":"2018-06-12T00:41:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2018\/06\/12\/rejoinder-to-news-item-pollution-in-dimapur-threatens-health-of-public\/"},"modified":"2018-06-12T00:41:58","modified_gmt":"2018-06-12T00:41:58","slug":"rejoinder-to-news-item-pollution-in-dimapur-threatens-health-of-public","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2018\/06\/12\/rejoinder-to-news-item-pollution-in-dimapur-threatens-health-of-public\/","title":{"rendered":"Rejoinder to news item \u2018Pollution in Dimapur threatens health of public\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Reacting to the news item \u201cPollution in Dimapur threatens health of public\u201d published on June 11, Sunrise colony secretary, Athempu Kamei has clarified that his statement in connection with solid waste management has been misquoted, because from the very beginning, Sunrise Colony had been objecting the Tripartite Agreement by the Department of Municipal Affairs Nagaland with New Waves Bio-Fuels India Private Limited.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">\u201cTherefore there is no question of pointing out the non implementation of the waste management project\u201d, the secretary said in a rejoinder letter.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">The letter further claimed that the DMC dumping ground was initially inaugurated as a sweeper quarter and not as a dumping site.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">\u201cAll residents have purchased the land from the private owners including the DMC. So there is no such thing as occupying the land\u201d it added.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Reacting to the DMC CEO, Moa Sangtam\u2019s statement that when the dumping site was started there were no residents in the nearby areas,&nbsp; Kamei said that the colony would like to remind the CEO that the dumping site was started in violation of the provisions of Municipal Wastes (Management and Handling) Rules, 2000 which provides that the landfill site shall be away from habitation clusters, forest area, water bodies, monuments, National Parks, Wetlands and places of important cultural, historical or religious interest.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Also the rejoinder stated that landfills should also be \u201caway from airport including airbase.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">According to the rejoinder, approval of concerned airport or airbase authorities was necessary before setting up a landfill if it is to be within 20 km of an airport or airbase.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">The colony questioned the DMC whether approval had been obtained from the Dimapur Airport Authority since the present dumping site is located within 5 kms from the airport.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Stating that residents have every right to complain against the DMC for starting the dumping ground without complying with regulations, it said that their pleas cannot be connected with if the landfill or the colony came first.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">\u201cHowever from the statement of the CEO it appears that the residents have no right to complain\u201d it stated.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">On the DMC administrator\u2019s statement that if DMC stopped disposing garbage, it may lead to a law and order situation, the rejoinder said that if the dumping continued, it may lead to an epidemic.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Instead of such alarmist messages of law and order, it suggested that it was time to think how to find a solution to the damages already caused \u201cbecause of violation of the specification given for setting up a landfill.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Regarding the DMC claim of offers for medical camps and chemical to control flies, the colony said it did not recall any such offers being made, but whole heartedly welcomed such initiatives if it really intended to make such offers.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">\u201cThe DMC should also consider providing free water supply to the affected areas till the contaminated ground water is rejuvenated to its natural form\u201d it further stated.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">While the rejoinder said that the government is for the people, managed and run \u201cby our own people.\u201d It invited citizens to work together to find a solution to the problem of setting up a new landfill that complies with the rules and does not make anyone suffer.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Finally, it issued a call to everyone to manage their solid waste to lessen this problem, because \u201cpolluter\u2019s duty comes first\u201d.<\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reacting to the news item \u201cPollution in Dimapur threatens health of public\u201d published on June 11, Sunrise colony secretary, Athempu Kamei has clarified that his statement in connection with solid waste management has been misquoted, because from the very beginning, Sunrise Colony had been objecting the Tripartite Agreement by the Department of Municipal Affairs Nagaland [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[679],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-18955","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-nagaland-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18955","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=18955"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18955\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=18955"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=18955"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=18955"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
