Nagaland Governor PB Acharya has urged IIT and university students from mainland India to visit North-eastern States to study and carry out research on the region’s natural resources and rich culture and come up with best strategies for harnessing and strengthening them through education and development.<\/p>\n
The Governor also appealed to the students and professionals to invest their knowledge in working for the interest of the nation, instead of going to other countries.<\/p>\n
During a conversation with screen writer, columnist and author Advaita Kala on the theme “A call of changemakers” at IIT, Delhi on Sunday, the governor mentioned that there were 800 universities in the country, out of which five were in Nagaland. <\/p>\n
He said university education must also include a curriculum on service to society and nation. <\/p>\n
He urged students and researchers to carry out study for the welfare of weaker sections of the society with emphasis in tribal areas to empower them with education. <\/p>\n
Acharya stressed “empowering the unpowered”.<\/p>\n
The conversation was part of the Aavaahn 2019 held at IIT Delhi, which Acharya attended.<\/p>\n
Calling for respecting people of all faiths as India was a secular nation, the governor suggested that each year some students should visit the North-eastern States, including Nagaland, to interact with the people and experience their colourful culture and rich traditions, besides knowing about the natural resources.<\/p>\n
He wished the gathering with the acronym “NAMASTE”, where “N” stands for Nagaland, “A” for Assam, “M” for Manipur, Mizoram and Meghalaya, “A” for Arunachal Pradesh, “S” for Sikkim, “T” for Tripura and “E” for east. He concluded his conversation with the slogan “Anek bhasha anek vesh, phir bhi mera desh ek”.<\/p>\n
Acharya was accompanied by Dinesh Kumar, commissioner & secretary to the governor, and Kethosituo Sekhose, deputy resident commissioner of Nagaland House, New Delhi. <\/p>\n
