Following are some reports from across the state.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Chunlikha Block: ATMA Chunlikha block Kohima district conducted demonstration and inauguration programme on May 19 and 23, at under various villages of Chunlikha block and Ziphenyu villages.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">At the demonstration programme, BTT Convenor Micheal (ACTO, KVK Tesophenyu) shared about the concept and importance of food security and some of the alternate ways of preserving agricultural produce where there are no facilities of proper cooling storage.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Block Technology Manager (BTM) Kekhriesielie conducted a demonstration programme on organic seed treatment using pseudomonas strain on paddy seeds at Tesophenyu new village.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Assistant Technology Manager (ATM) Sinlo Khing demonstrated on preparation of nursery bed for paddy seeds at Tesophenyu new village.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">He spoke on the importance of spacing according to its variety and how it affects the crop yield and also techniques involving in nursery bed preparation for higher yield comparing to traditional method.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">ATM Kebegi Kent demonstrated management of post- harvest diseases of potato at Tesophenyu new village. She highlighted some of the control measures and management practices of tuber diseases such as brown rot, potato wart, dry rot and charcoal rot.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Altogether, 37 farmers were benefited by the programme.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Meanwhile, a farm school was inaugurated by Dr. Akashe Zimomi Sr. Scientist and Head KVK Kohima wherein he highlighted functions of ATMA and concept of farm school.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">He also spoke on importance of integrated fish farming.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Altogether, 22 farmers along with Khilo Chung farm school teacher attended the inaugural programme.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Tseminyu Block: ATMA Tseminyu block conducted demonstration on disease management of maize on May 19 at Ngvuphen with Tseminyu block ATM, Sharon Kent, as the resource person.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">A press release from ATMA Tseminyu block stated that farmers were briefed on the significance of diseases and its effects on maize crop. The area has more incidences of diseases such as bacterial stalk rot, rust, late wilt, crazy top downy mildew and some less incident diseases. Control measures such as timely cultural operations, planting of hybrid and resistant varieties, seed treatment with thiram and spraying of mancozeb were taught to farmers.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">ATMA Tseminyu block also conducted a demonstration on methods for testing of soil acidity on May 19, at Tseminyu.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">At the programme, the resource person stated that identifying the acidity of soil on which crops were to be grown was an extremely important first step.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">She said that it was important to maintain a balanced pH in the soil because under high acidic conditions soil minerals dissolve and increase the concentration of metal ions to toxic levels and under alkaline conditions, the solubility of minerals decreases to the point that nutrient deficiencies occur.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">However treating acidic soil with limestone and acidifying some alkaline soils with sulfur or acid forming fertilizers can be done. It is often easier manage the nutrient deficiencies that occur on alkaline soils than to acidify the soil, she added.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">The program was chaired by Hilole, keynote address was delivered by the resource person and the vote of thanks by Kehinye Kent. Altogether, seven participants attended the programme.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Athibung block: ATMA Peren, Athibung block conducted a training on \u201cSRI management practices for irrigated conditions\u201d and demonstration on \u201cOyster mushroom cultivation\u201d at Phaijol village May 19, with ATM, Lireni and BTM, Lhaihoichong as the resource persons.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">A press release from ATMA Ahthibung block said Lireni trained the farmers on the importance of System of Rice Intensification (SRI) for sustainable livelihood stating that it was a production system based on four main interacting principles that included use of younger seedling (15 days) at two leaf stage, reduced plant density- single planting per hill at wider space, enrichment of soil with organic manure and adoption of intermittent irrigation. She said that the SRI technique not only ensures higher yield but also lowers the production cost due to reduction in the input, thereby, increasing the farmers income and profit.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Lhaihoichong gave a demonstration on oyster mushroom cultivation, and he encouraged the farmers to make use of the paddy straws in the field for mushroom cultivation instead of just burning them or letting them waste away.<\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) has been continuing its activities to spread information and knowledge about modern agricultural and allied technologies.
