Mezivil Kikhi said the awareness campaign was not only confine to certain period of time but a beginning of the process to achieve India&rsquo;s commitment to eliminate all single use plastics in the country by 2022.<\/p>\n<p>He therefore suggested that both the government and public must converge and move together in achieving this goal. &ldquo;When we work together we can someday achieve zero waste in our own state and in our own home&rdquo; he said.&nbsp; To achieve this commitment, Kikhi viewed that each individual must contribute and make conscious efforts to stop using all single use plastics-to reduce, to refuse plastics as much as possible.<\/p>\n<p>He reminded that the activities will require the active participation of all the NGOs, village panchayats, various organizations, individuals, business communities, institutions, schools and colleges.<\/p>\n<p>Viswema village council chairman, Zhotoho Kiso in his short speech appreciated the department for taking the initiative for bringing the awareness to the village and hoped that through this campaign the use of plastic in the locality would be reduced.<\/p>\n<p>He also pointed out the ill-effects of plastic in the environment and encouraged the village to work together for the cause to bring about the change and stop using single use plastic products.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The programme chaired by SAN &amp; Hyg. consultant, Virhelie Kruneilie began with an invocation by St. Joseph Catholic Church, Viswema assistant catechist Kronosa Cornelius and vote of thanks by JE rural division PHED, Kohima Er.
