{"id":201772,"date":"2019-10-24T11:50:24","date_gmt":"2019-10-24T11:50:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2019\/10\/24\/persons-with-disabilities-sensitised-on-rpwd-act\/"},"modified":"2019-10-24T11:50:24","modified_gmt":"2019-10-24T11:50:24","slug":"persons-with-disabilities-sensitised-on-rpwd-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2019\/10\/24\/persons-with-disabilities-sensitised-on-rpwd-act\/","title":{"rendered":"Persons with disabilities sensitised on RPwD Act"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/http:\/\/new.nagalandpost.com\/cms\/gall_content\/no_images_650x.jpg><\/p>\n<p>A sensitisation and acampaign on Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act 2016 for head of offices under Wokha district was held at the DC&rsquo;s conference hall on October 22.<\/p>\n<p>The programme was organised by Mission mode Team (Accessible India Campaign) in collaboration with the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Secretary, Government of Nagaland and team leader, Mission mode Team (Accessible India Campaign), K.Libanthung Lotha, said that the motive of the team was to sensitise and create awareness to all the stakeholders, (both government servants and NGOs) so that they become an agent for successful implementation on RPwD Act 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Lotha said that, Accessible India Campaign was a part of RPwD Act 2016 and a national flagship programme launched by the government of India to achieve universal accessibility for persons with disabilities. It has three components accessibilities namely, inbuilt environment, transportation system and information and communication eco-system.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He added under the directive of the Supreme Court of India to implement RPwD, Mission mode Team (Accessible India Campaign) for Nagaland state was established on February 5, 2019.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He also said that AIC mode team has inspected 29 government office buildings and establishments in the state and submitted status report to the state government.<\/p>\n<p>State commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Diethono Nakhro, while highlighting the RPwD Act, 2016 overview, status of implementation and way forward, said that it was the responsibility of the government to ensure that Persons with Disabilities enjoy &ldquo;the right to equality, life with dignity, and respect for his or her own integrity equally with others&rdquo;.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She said that the Act provides for appropriate environment for Persons with Disabilities to live, work and socialise in the community, Protection from Abuse and Exploitation and Right to Safety and various other rights as equal citizens. Nakhro also spoke on rights and entitlement of disable persons on education, skill development and employment, social security, health rehabilitation and recreation, special provision, duties and responsibility of governments, special courts, offences and penalties.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A talk on disability scenario in Nagaland: Challenges and Opportunities was delivered by director, Prodigals Home, Dimapur K.Ela and court directive \/legal implication of non-compliance was highlighted by advocate, Guwhati High Court Kohima Bench, Apila Sangtam.
